What is a temporary project manager?

A temporary project manager is a professional hired on a short-term basis to lead and oversee specific projects within an organization. They are responsible for planning, executing, and closing projects while ensuring that objectives are met on time and within budget. Temporary project managers often fill gaps during staff shortages, manage special initiatives, or bring specialized expertise to a project. Their contracts typically last for the duration of the project or until specific goals are achieved.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a temporary project manager?

To thrive as a Temporary Project Manager, you need solid project management knowledge, organizational skills, and often a bachelor's degree or relevant experience. Familiarity with project management tools like Microsoft Project, Asana, or Trello, and certifications such as PMP or PRINCE2, are highly valued. Strong leadership, adaptability, and effective communication help you quickly integrate with teams and drive projects to completion. These skills ensure that projects are delivered on time and within scope, even within the limited timeframe of temporary engagements.

What are some unique challenges faced in temporary project management roles compared to permanent positions?

Temporary project management roles often require professionals to quickly adapt to new organizational cultures, processes, and teams. Since projects are time-bound, there is usually a fast-paced environment with tight deadlines and immediate expectations for results. Building trust with team members and stakeholders in a short time frame can be challenging, as can gaining access to resources and information. However, these roles offer valuable experience working in diverse settings, enhancing adaptability and problem-solving skills.

What is the difference between Temporary Project Management vs Project Coordinator?

AspectTemporary Project ManagementProject Coordinator
CredentialsPM certifications (e.g., PMP), relevant experienceBasic project management or related certifications, experience often preferred
Work EnvironmentTemporary, project-based, often on-site or remoteOngoing, supporting project teams, often on-site or remote
Employer & Industry UsageUsed across industries for short-term projectsCommon in various industries for supporting project execution

Temporary Project Management involves leading projects on a short-term basis, requiring advanced certifications and leadership skills. In contrast, Project Coordinators support project teams with administrative and logistical tasks, often with less emphasis on leadership. Both roles are essential but differ mainly in scope, responsibility, and duration.

Can a temporary project management work part-time?

Temporary project management roles can often be part-time, depending on the employer’s needs and project scope. Many organizations hire project managers on a flexible schedule, especially for short-term projects or specific deliverables, and relevant skills include scheduling tools like MS Project or Trello. Candidates should review job descriptions to confirm work hours and expectations.

Can you get a temporary project management job with no experience?

Temporary project management roles typically require some level of experience or related skills such as organization, communication, and familiarity with project management tools. Entry-level positions may be available for those with strong transferable skills or relevant certifications like CAPM, but most employers prefer candidates with prior experience or training. Gaining relevant knowledge through courses or certifications can improve chances of securing such roles without prior direct experience.

ABOUT GOODR

We create and sell active eyewear for anyone. No Slip. No Bounce. All Polarized. All Fun. Interested in joining our team? Keep reading.

OUR VALUES: We have two core values: Fun & Authenticity.

  • FUN = Being sh*tty isn't fun. Agreed? Taking pride in your work, finding joy in being GREAT, and celebrating wins… and losses. Now, that's fun!
  • AUTHENTICITY = Focusing on being authentic over being liked. (Next-level guru stuff. Count it.)

Fun Fact: We do not allow email to be sent internally. Carrier pigeons only. JK, we use Slack.

AUTONOMY: We practice autonomy, empowerment, and accountability so that every team member can be in control of their own life.

  • ONSITE POSITION: We can't do this without you… here. You'll spend 5 days per week in our cozy indoor jungle office that we call "The Lagoon".

ABOUT THE ROLE

We are launching a new annual planning initiative to drive our brand goals across the company over the next 5 years and we need an absolute execution powerhouse to help us pull it off. This isn't a role for a passive note-taker; we need a tactical, process-building Project Manager for approximately 3–4 months who can drop in ASAP and keep our momentum moving at hyper-speed.

Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to serve as the ultimate accountability partner for the Office of the CEO. You will own the follow-through for all related initiatives across all channels, transforming high-level revenue maps into iron-clad execution milestones, and aligning our service teams (Operations, Creative, and People) on resource needs. If you love building frameworks from scratch, chasing down deadlines, and keeping cross-functional teams beautifully aligned without breaking a sweat, we want you on the team yesterday.

**Note: This is a Full-Time TEMPORARY position from July 2026 through October 2026. You are expected in person in the office 5 days a week.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Translate high-level frameworks for the annual planning initiative into structured project plans, specifically owning the tracking and follow-through for all related initiatives across all channels
  • Support the build out of the new annual planning process, designing a reusable template while continuously identifying workflow efficiencies and process improvements throughout the cycle
  • Ensure strict cross-functional accountability across the annual planning initiative by holding teams to tight deadlines, preventing initiative drop-off after initial deliverables are met
  • Run efficient, tactical check-ins and working sessions to unblock cross-functional dependencies and keep the annual planning cycle moving at a rapid pace
  • Align service teams, including Operations, Creative, and People, on critical resource needs, such as headcount, systems, and inventory, to support the broader annual execution plans
  • Maintain regular, tight communication loops for the initiative, including daily check-ins with the Chief of Staff and clear status updates to stakeholders
  • Manage day-to-day annual planning project logistics, including tracking action items and actively resolving cross-functional bottlenecks
  • This role is in the Office of the CEO and will report directly to the Chief of Staff
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

ABOUT THE IDEAL CANDIDATE

  • May or may not have a degree...we don't care (bonus points for Basset Hound Science or Dinosaur Law)
  • 4+ years experience in project management or in a closely-related field, with a strong focus on tactical execution and follow-through
  • Prior experience managing annual planning initiatives or corporate business operations plans is a huge plus
  • Proven experience supporting or building project management frameworks and reusable templates from scratch where no previous playbook exists
  • Master of Asana or similar project management software who can navigate complex workstreams with ease
  • Demonstrates the executive presence needed to communicate succinctly, clearly, and confidently with department leadership
  • Loves building and improving processes to ensure deadlines are met with tactical accuracy
  • Proven ability to hold people accountable while maintaining a collaborative and dependable team-player mindset
  • Strong communicator who lives into collaboration
  • Driven by personal growth and thrives in an environment of constant feedback
  • Is proactive and an independent problem solver! (Can you google a question?)

WHAT YOU GET

  • The opportunity to show up every day and have fun
  • To be involved in the most exciting sunglasses brand to hit the athletic space
  • Paycheck....obviously. Hourly range: $45-$50/hr, final offer will be made within this range based on experience
  • The ability to learn and grow as a person
  • Free sunglasses
