POSITION SUMMARY
The Student Support Assistant for Project Reroute supports the program's mission to empower students impacted by the criminal justice system by advocating for access to higher education and providing support services that promote academic success, holistic development and continued achievement beyond the classroom. This position helps maintain an environment where students receive guidance and mentorship and are encouraged to reach high standards of academic excellence and community engagement. By assisting program operations, outreach efforts and student services, the Student Support Assistant contributes to a framework in which system impacted students can thrive and serve as beacons of hope for those following in their footsteps.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS/JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Assist with contacting students regarding appointment reminders, follow ups and program updates.
Provide general information about Project Reroute services and campus resources.
Help students access basic forms, technology platforms and support services. Greet visitors and students. Answer phone calls and emails related to Project Reroute inquiries. Organize program materials, handouts and digital files.
Assist with scheduling appointments, tracking attendance and maintaining calendars.
Maintain inventory of student support materials.

Enter, update and verify student information in approved databases or spreadsheets. Assist with preparing reports, summaries and data updates for program staff. Maintain confidentiality of student records and comply with FERPA guidelines. Help prepare for and facilitate workshops, orientations and tabling events. Set up materials, assist with sign in procedures and support staff with logistics. Participate in program initiatives such as surveys, promotional campaigns or resource development.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Current Nashville State Community College degree seeking student or alumni

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Prior experience in customer service, office support, peer mentoring, or student services

Familiarity with basic office equipment and software (Microsoft 365, email, shared drives)

Experience working in a variety of educational environments or with non-traditional student populations

Project Reroute student or alumni

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Basic understanding of College support services, departments and academic pathways. Awareness of privacy expectations and handling of sensitive information. Familiarity with standard office procedures. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Proficiency with computers, email, and productivity tools (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams). Customer service and interpersonal skills. Organizational skills with attention to detail. Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize in a busy environment. Ability to work effectively with students from a wide range of backgrounds. Ability to follow directions, take initiative where appropriate and work independently or as part of a team. Ability to maintain professionalism, reliability and punctuality. Ability to remain patient, welcoming and supportive during student interactions. Ability to be problem oriented and solution focused.
