At Sweet Candy while we have been in business for over 100 years we are future focused and have some of the most advanced confectionary machines in the world. We also have some machines that have been producing candy for over half a century.


The FSQA Sanitation Supervisor's objective is to ensure the cleanliness, function and aesthetic of the Sweet Candy Company facility, grounds and machinery. He/She works hand in glove with the Operations, Maintenance and the FSQA (Food Safety Quality Assurance) departments to maintain and improve plant-wide GMP and Preventative Maintenance efforts resulting in a clean and efficient "world-class" facility with an exemplary BRC/GFSI rating. Waste reduction will be a key objective in this position.


Position Essential Functions:

  • Manage the team of Sanitarians and direct responsibilities related to the Master Sanitation program and other cleaning responsibilities.
  • Work with production and maintenance teams to develop and implement initiatives directed at increasing sustainability and reducing utilities demand.
  • Working on reducing waste from various areas of the facility by monitoring, capturing and managing flows to reduce waste reduction at the facility.
  • Responsible for managing the Master Sanitation Program and working closely with the FSQA department in their Environmental Monitoring program.
  • Responsible for managing recyclable material with third party vendors.
  • Responsible for ordering, maintaining supplies related to Sanitation and Operational needs. Maintain necessary materials are available for the team to efficiently meet departmental demand.
  • Responsible for managing and operating the Sanitation budget with a goal of meeting or delivering under budget each month.
  • Improve and maintain the company's facilities, contract laundry service, grounds through an effective combination of internal teams and external vendors to assure compliance. Maintains the cleanliness of the entire facility through a combination of internal staff and external services ensuring compliance with all GMPS and BRC guidelines resulting in audit scores of A or higher.
  • Lead Sanitation & Janitorial teams by example so that team is thoroughly trained in both process, policy and procedure.
  • Responsible to efficiently and effectively schedule team to meet demand while managing overtime to an established level so that production is minimally affected, and costs are actively managed.
  • First response team for accident/allergen/spills clean up.
  • Optimizes team through hiring, training, coaching, and discipline resulting in a stronger, more engaged team with fewer safety and HR incidence.
  • Trains or assigns mentors/trainers for new employees and temps so that all working in dept. know what is expected and are trained appropriately to achieve positive results safely.
  • Process weekly department timecards, team paperwork (position change, time off, etc.) and document necessary incidents so that information is easily found in the event of an audit.
  • Responsible for keeping team on track regarding all training (safety, GMP, technical, etc.) so that all team members know what is expected and use appropriate judgment when necessary
  • Develops/implements departmental safety hazard assessments, audits, and improvements resulting in no workplace accidents.
  • Actively support and engage in growth planning (departmental, building, space).
  • Effectively and frequently communicates to all stakeholders verbally, in writing, and via technology so that necessary information flows freely increasing efficiency.
  • Must be or become certified and maintain certification to operate all necessary PIV's.
  • Can meet all of the physical demands of the position which includes, but is not limited to, lifting up to 50 pounds on an occasional basis, bending, carrying, reaching, pushing, pulling, walking, sitting, utilizing various powered industrial trucks (using foot and dual hand controls)

Non-Essential Functions:

  • Engage and participate in companywide Risk and Disaster Planning
  • Identifies areas of improvement, develops and executes action plans so that Continuous Improvements results are successful
  • Gathers, analyses and presents various data sets to team, management team and outside visitors.
  • Act as a safety incident responder, administers first aid when needed and participates in emergency evacuation sweeps.
  • Accurately completes all necessary paperwork in a timely manner.
  • Participate in the development of and adherence to departmental budgeting resulting in better controls of costs and increasing ability to measure and analyze data.

Requirements

Education, Knowledge and Skill Requirements:

  • Minimum of 5+ years of progressive leadership in a food manufacturing environment.
  • Has experience in Food Industry related quality assurance including but not limited to: Metal Detection processes and documentation, Swab testing, Allergens and Contaminants ensuring Sweet Candy Company's continued exemplary GFSI standing.
  • Intimately familiar with GFSI and BRC standards as it pertains to cleanliness and sanitation with the audit track record to back it up (minimum A grade)
  • Has machine maintenance/operator experience and can safely and efficiently perform necessary industrial sanitation on assigned machines
  • Associate's degree or equivalent relevant experience
  • OSHA 10 certified
  • CPR, AED and First Aid certified
  • Food Safety/GMP training
  • Must exhibit the HIGHEST level of SAFETY ensuring that each shift ends with no workplace accidents
  • Must exhibit the HIGHEST regard for QUALITY so that all candy produced meets or exceeds established standards
  • Must work well in a collaborative and team oriented environment
  • Ability to work well under pressure and within deadlines
  • Adaptability/flexibility is imperative as well as the ability to act/react in real time
  • Results driven and proactive with a strong desire to own and execute area of responsibility with excellence
  • Analytical/Reasoning ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions
