100% Remote - Must reside in the US full time
Brandt Information Services, the leading provider of SaaS technology and marketing services for state wildlife and parks agencies, is paving the way to better communicate and serve the public through their journey to go camping, fishing, boating, hunting, or hiking on public land. At Brandt, we build and improve upon the customer journey for public users buying campground reservations, fishing and hunting licenses, boat registrations, educational event tickets, and the list goes on. State funds generated go back into conservation and outdoor recreation improvements.
The Product Owner serves as a cross-functional leader and value driver within the Agile development process, accountable for translating strategic product direction into actionable development work. This role collaborates across business, technology, and customer-facing teams to ensure solutions are well-defined, prioritized effectively, and aligned to stakeholder and customer needs.
Job Responsibilities
  • Product Backlog Ownership: Demonstrates strong organizational agility and execution by owning and continuously refining the product backlog. Prioritizes user stories, defects, and technical tasks based on strategic objectives, customer value, technical feasibility, and alignment with project plans and portfolio-level priorities.
  • Requirements Elicitation amp; Definition: Partners with Business Analysts and stakeholders to validate business needs and ensure clear, testable requirements. Collaborate with Product Owners to develop Business Requirements Documents (BRDs), epics, features, and user stories with clearly defined acceptance criteria, showing attention to detail and decision quality.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Works closely with Product Managers to align backlog priorities with overall product vision, roadmap, project plans, and portfolio-level priorities. Serves as a trusted liaison between stakeholders and development teams, ensuring transparency, shared understanding, and effective communication. Builds strong partnerships by demonstrating interpersonal savvy and collaboration.
  • Agile Planning amp; Execution: Leads and contributes to Agile ceremonies including sprint planning, daily stand-ups, backlog grooming, sprint reviews, and retrospectives. Brings planning and prioritization skills to help teams remain focused on value delivery and continuous improvement. Ensures good Agile practices align to department standards and industry best practices, including standard sprint reporting (e.g., burndown charts) and planning across multiple sprints to support effective delivery.
  • Customer amp; Stakeholder Focus: Maintains a customer-centric mindset by integrating user feedback and business insights into backlog prioritization. Balances competing demands to ensure the most valuable work is delivered, reflecting business acumen and stakeholder management.
  • Quality Assurance amp; Acceptance: Participates in user acceptance testing (UAT), validating that developed features meet defined requirements and business objectives. Holds teams accountable for quality outcomes by ensuring clarity and completeness in user stories and acceptance criteria.
  • Continuous Improvement amp; Product Evolution: Solicits post-launch feedback to identify enhancements and drive iterative improvement. Applies critical thinking and learning agility to continuously evolve the product and inform future development cycles.
Job Competencies
  • Proven experience translating business needs into actionable user stories, features, and acceptance criteria within an Agile environment.
  • Strong backlog management skills, with the ability to prioritize competing demands to deliver maximum value to the business and users.
  • Excellent collaboration and communication skills, with a track record of partnering effectively with cross-functional teams including Product Managers, Developers, QA, and Business Analysts.
  • A customer-centric mindset and data-informed decision-making approach that consistently advocates for user value and business impact.
  • High level of ownership, accountability, and attention to detail in driving initiatives from discovery through delivery.
What You Will Need
  • 3–4 years of experience in product ownership or related technical/product roles.
  • Advanced experience managing large or complex backlogs, including competing priorities and multiple stakeholder inputs.
  • Deep understanding of Agile product delivery and iterative software development.
  • Strong analytical skills with experience in breaking down ambiguous business needs into strategic product solutions.

  • The selected candidate should have the skills, qualifications, and experience consistent with a Staff II level within Brandt’s job architecture. The compensation range is between $37.50 - $43.25 per hour with the final level and corresponding payrate determined based on the candidate’s expertise, qualifications, and prior experience within the applicable pay band.
