To succeed in Cryptocurrency Accounting, you need a solid grounding in traditional accounting principles, a strong understanding of blockchain technology, and familiarity with digital asset regulations, often supported by a relevant degree or CPA credential. Attention to detail, analytical thinking, and clear communication are essential soft skills in this evolving field. These skills ensure accurate digital asset management, compliance with complex regulations, and effective reporting in a rapidly changing industry.

Job description

Who You Are:

You're a senior accounting leader who will own Corporate Accounting and Public Reporting as a unified function, leading a cross-functional team of 6-10 professionals. You'll partner daily with the CAO, external auditors, and business teams (product, treasury, legal, tax, risk) to ensure accurate, timely financial reporting. You'll own the 10-K, 10-Q, and related filings end-to-end, and work collaboratively with auditors to finalize technical positions before the reporting period closes. You understand how transactions flow-from source systems through the data layer and into the GL-and that proximity to the data is what allows you to get ahead of accounting issues. You're also fluent in AI tools and use them to accelerate research, draft memos, and synthesize complex guidance, applying your judgment to refine and finalize.

What You'll Do:

Team Leadership & Operations

  • Manage and develop a cross-functional team spanning Corporate Accounting and Public Reporting; allocate resources to balance close, reporting, and project work.
  • Maintain and improve documentation and controls to support SOX compliance and audit readiness.
  • Drive continuous improvement in close efficiency, reporting quality, and team capabilities-including adoption of AI tools.

SEC Reporting & Disclosure

  • Own the preparation and filing of 10-K, 10-Q, 8-K, and other SEC filings; ensure technical accuracy and completeness of disclosures.
  • Drive the quarterly and annual close process in coordination with Corporate Accounting; ensure reporting timelines are met.
  • Coordinate earnings releases and support investor relations with accurate financial data.

Technical Accounting

  • Lead technical accounting research for complex transactions (e.g., M&A, digital assets, consolidations, leases, revenue, stock-based comp) and prepare formal memoranda.
  • Interpret new accounting standards (ASUs), design transition approaches, and lead cross-functional implementations.
  • Leverage AI tools to accelerate research and memo drafting; apply judgment to finalize positions.

Audit & Stakeholder Collaboration

  • Own the external audit relationship jointly with the CAO; serve as the primary technical accounting liaison to auditors and regulators.
  • Provide real-time accounting guidance to business partners on new products, contracts, and commercial arrangements.
  • Present technical conclusions to senior management and the Board; escalate issues with clear recommendations.

AI Implementation

  • Embrace and champion the thoughtful adoption of AI to improve team performance and business outcomes.
  • Leverage AI tools (e.g., generative AI, automation platforms, data copilots) to improve productivity, decision-making, and output quality in your day-to-day work.

What We're Looking For:

  • Licensed CPA.
  • 10+ years of progressive accounting experience, including public accounting and hands-on SEC reporting.
  • Deep working knowledge of U.S. GAAP; proven experience preparing technical accounting memos and supporting external audits.
  • Experience managing and developing teams (6+ direct/indirect reports).
  • Hands-on experience with AI tools (e.g., Claude, ChatGPT) for research, drafting, and workflow acceleration.
  • Data fluency: understanding of how transactions flow from source systems through data pipelines to the GL; comfort working with data and technology teams.
  • Strong written and verbal communication; able to explain complex accounting to non-technical stakeholders.
  • High standards for documentation, controls, and audit readiness.

Bonus Points:

  • Prior experience in fintech, financial services, or digital asset / cryptocurrency accounting.
  • Familiarity with Workday Financials, Databricks, or similar ERP/data platforms.
  • Experience with working at a regulator or standard setting body (e.g., SEC or FASB).

What We Offer:

  • Competitive base salary and discretionary bonus
  • Hybrid/Flexible Working Arrangements
  • Flexible Time Off (paid)
  • 3% 401(k) company contribution
  • Company-paid health and protective benefits for employees, partners, and other dependents
  • Generous paid Parental Leave
  • Competitive family planning benefits for US employees
  • Opportunities to learn about the Crypto industry
  • Smart, entrepreneurial, and fun colleagues
  • Free daily snacks and weekly breakfasts/lunches
  • Employee Resource Groups
  • Free coaching and counseling sessions through Headspace
