KU Center for Technology Commercialization - TempsPosition Title:Technology Transfer Intern - KUCTCJob Family Group: Professional Staff, Students & GRA/GTA/GAJob Description Summary:The Technology Transfer Intern will work under the direction of the Licensing team for the KU Center for Technology Commercialization (KUCTC), which serves all KU campuses, including the KU Medical Center in Kansas City. The mission of KUCTC is to manage discoveries and innovations made from research so that they may have greater impact, benefit the public, and promote economic development. Licensing Interns are generally responsible for supporting the licensing team by helping to scout, reviewing, market and license invention disclosures.
The Technology Transfer Intern will report to at least one Licensing Team member and may rotate depending on the needs of the Licensing Team and the field of expertise of the Intern.Job Description:

Key Roles and Responsibilities

Invention Scouting

  • Utilize sources of information to determine outreach candidates for KU Faculty for potential invention disclosures.

  • Establish contact and discuss with KU faculty to scout for new and upcoming inventions.

Technology Review

  • Review and participate in KU Faculty meetings to preliminarily review disclosures.

  • Perform technology triages, which focus on all facets of the invention including: evaluating the technological aspects of the invention, the market for the potential product and the intellectual property landscape.

  • Present technology triages at internal KUCTC meetings.

  • Participate in KU Faculty meetings to review the triage and responses, providing support in decision making for intellectual property protection strategies.

Marketing

  • Develop Non-Confidential Summaries for technologies for marketing.

  • Develop and evaluate company contact lists that target relevant potential licensees.

Agreement Negotiation

  • Participate in license agreement negotiation meetings with companies.

  • Aid in Terms Sheet Drafting

  • Aid in license agreement drafting.

Additionally, the Intern may have some flexibility to participate in rotations with other portions of the office as desired (i.e. Intellectual Property)

*The hourly rate for this position is $10-15$ an hour*

Compensation Statement:

The pay range listed for this position is determined by our compensation program using market data and salary benchmarking. A combination of factors is considered in making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, education, experience and training, qualifications relative to the requirements of the position, and funding. At the University of Kansas Medical Center, a reasonable estimate for the starting pay range will be the minimum to midpoint of the posted range, taking into account the combination of factors listed above.
