About SkillOps
SkillOps helps organizations strengthen their people, leaders, and teams through technology training, professional development, leadership development, and industry-recognized certification programs.
Founded in 1988, SkillOps serves organizations throughout the region with customized workforce development solutions, including technology training and Dale Carnegie leadership and professional development programs.
The Opportunity
SkillOps is seeking a Talent Development & Client Partnerships Consultant to grow our relationships with businesses throughout Hampton Roads and southeastern Virginia.
This is a relationship-driven business development role for someone who is well-connected in the local business community and energized by creating new opportunities. The ideal candidate combines consultative sales experience with a genuine interest in helping organizations develop their people.
You'll work with executives, HR and Talent leaders, Learning & Development professionals, and IT leaders to understand workforce challenges, identify skill gaps, and recommend solutions that strengthen individual and organizational performance.
While you'll support existing clients, new business development is a significant part of this role. We're looking for someone who enjoys opening doors, leveraging relationships, prospecting, and turning conversations into long-term partnerships.
What You'll Do
  • Build relationships with business, HR, Talent, L&D, and IT leaders throughout Hampton Roads.
  • Identify and develop new commercial client relationships through networking, referrals, community involvement, and proactive outreach.
  • Leverage and continually expand your existing professional network.
  • Meet with leaders to understand business priorities, workforce challenges, and talent development needs.
  • Recommend SkillOps technology, certification, leadership, and professional development solutions.
  • Develop trusted, long-term client relationships and identify opportunities to expand those partnerships.
  • Represent SkillOps at local business and professional events.
  • Maintain an active pipeline and consistently follow up on opportunities using CRM tools.
  • Achieve growth goals through new client acquisition and expansion of existing relationships.

What We're Looking For
  • 3+ years of successful consultative sales, business development, client partnership, professional services, or related experience.
  • A strong existing network within the Hampton Roads / southeastern Virginia business community.
  • Demonstrated success developing new relationships and converting them into business opportunities.
  • A hunter mindset and the initiative to proactively create opportunities rather than wait for leads.
  • Confidence engaging executives and senior organizational leaders.
  • Strong discovery, presentation, communication, and relationship-building skills.
  • Excellent organization, follow-through, and attention to detail.
  • Experience using CRM technology to manage relationships and pipeline.
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Human Resources, Organizational Development, Marketing, Communications, or a related discipline preferred.

Experience in corporate training, leadership development, workforce development, technology, HR services, or another consultative B2B environment is a plus.
Government, DoD, or government contracting experience is welcomed but not required.
Who Will Thrive at SkillOps
You may be a great fit if you're the person who walks into a Hampton Roads business event and already knows half the room - and leaves knowing the other half.
You naturally build relationships, make connections, and enjoy learning what's happening inside an organization. You're equally comfortable reconnecting with someone in your network, asking for an introduction, reaching out to a new organization, or sitting across from a CEO, HR executive, Talent leader, or IT leader to understand the challenges they're trying to solve.
You're curious, persistent, and comfortable creating your own opportunities. You understand that great business development isn't about pushing a product - it's about earning trust, uncovering a real need, and connecting the right solution to it.
Most importantly, you don't wait for opportunities to come to you. You create them.
If you're excited about helping Hampton Roads organizations develop their people while building meaningful, long-term client relationships, we'd like to meet you.
