Come work at a place where innovation and teamwork come together to support the most exciting missions in the world!
Job Description:
About ATD
The Association for Talent Development (ATD) is the premier membership organization for professionals in the learning and talent development field. Our mission is to create a world that works better by empowering professionals to develop talent in the workplace. Through training programs, membership, globally recognized certifications and events. We support individuals and organizations in talent development, to perform at the highest level.
About the Role
The Financial & HR Technology team supports the organization's core business systems, Workday HCM/FIN and Salesforce, and owns the architecture, security, integration, and governance of these platforms as the company scales and transforms its revenue operations. As Salesforce transitions from a department-level sales tool to the organization's central CRM, this team is expanding to provide the technical depth and governance structure that shift requires.
We are seeking a Salesforce Technical Lead to serve as the central technical owner of our Salesforce environment. This role goes beyond traditional Salesforce administration: you will architect our security model, data governance standards, and integration strategy as Salesforce becomes the system of record for customer and prospect data across an evolving technical environment.
You will work closely with our technology team to manage data flows between Salesforce and other applications, including our OMS and Workday, and you will partner with our existing Salesforce Administrator, who continues to support day-to-day needs for the Enterprise Sales team, to establish and enforce platform-wide standards.
This is a highly visible, high-ownership role for someone who wants to build a governance and technical function from the ground up rather than maintain an existing one.
What You'll Do
Platform Architecture & Security
  • Develop and own the org-wide security model: profiles, permission sets, permission set groups, role hierarchy, sharing rules, and org-wide defaults
  • Establish data access governance standards as multiple business units and teams onboard to Salesforce
  • Conduct periodic security and access audits

Data Governance
  • Define and enforce data quality standards, deduplication processes, and field-level governance
  • Partner with the IT team and business stakeholders to determine system-of-record ownership for shared data domains (e.g., employee/org data, customer master data)
  • Establish data management policies to support a global, multi-department Salesforce user base
  • Ensure platform practices align with relevant data privacy and compliance requirements (e.g., SOC 2, GDPR/CCPA)

Integration & Technical Architecture
  • Design, build, and maintain integrations between Salesforce and other systems, including Workday and Fluent
  • Own API strategy and middleware usage (e.g., Confluent, MuleSoft, Dell Boomi, or equivalent) for Salesforce-connected systems
  • Partner with the IT team on bidirectional data flows (e.g., CRM data, order data, Salesforce provisioning, user lifecycle)

Platform Administration & Release Management
  • Own the Salesforce release management process, including sandbox strategy, change sets/DevOps tooling), and deployment governance
  • Define and maintain a data backup and disaster recovery strategy for the platform
  • Manage Salesforce license allocation and cost optimization as adoption expands
  • Provide technical oversight and mentorship to the Salesforce Administrator, who continues to manage day-to-day Sales team support
  • Serve as the escalation point for complex configuration, security, or integration issues
  • Support the expansion of Salesforce usage across teams and business units beyond Sales, including training and enablement for new user groups
  • Develop scalable admin processes and documentation to support a growing, distributed user base

What We're Looking For
  • 7+ years of Salesforce administration/architecture experience, including at least 2 years in a platform-owner or lead capacity (not solely front-line business support)
  • Salesforce Advanced Administrator certification required; Platform App Builder or Sales Cloud/Service Cloud Consultant certifications strongly preferred
  • Demonstrated experience designing security architecture at scale (org-wide defaults, complex sharing rules, permission set groups), not just user and license management
  • Hands-on integration experience: REST/SOAP APIs and middleware tools such as Confluent, MuleSoft, Dell Boomi, or similar
  • Experience supporting multi-department or global Salesforce implementations
  • Strong understanding of data governance principles, including data quality, deduplication, and master data management concepts
  • Excellent cross-functional communication skills; ability to work closely with Workday and other systems counterparts

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working on Salesforce initiatives involving ERP (such as Workday) and/or OMS platforms (e.g., integrations, implementations, enhancements, provisioning)
  • Familiarity with Workday data structures (organizations, security groups) as they relate to CRM provisioning
  • Background supporting both Sales Cloud and additional clouds (Service Cloud, Data Cloud, etc.) as adoption expands
  • Salesforce architect-track certifications (e.g., Sharing and Visibility Architect, Data Architect, Integration Architect, or Application/System Architect)
  • Hands-on experience with a master data management (MDM) tool or process
  • Exposure to emerging Salesforce capabilities such as Data Cloud or Agentforce, and a point of view on governing AI-driven features

Why Join Us
  • Opportunity to work on impactful technology initiatives that support the organization's mission
  • Collaborative team environment with strong cross-functional partnership
  • Exposure to a wide range of systems, projects, and stakeholders
  • Opportunities for growth and development within enterprise applications.

Our Work Environment...
  • The Association for Talent Development is a hybrid organization headquartered in Alexandria, VA.

  • Our recently remodeled office is in the heart of Old Town Alexandria, right on King Street, just a block away from the Metro and the Historical District and Old Town Waterfront along the Potomac River.

  • We are committed to our own development and offer a wide range of professional development opportunities, additional paid time off with our Learning Hours, and an annual Employee Learning Week.

  • We celebrate and recognize our teammates with awards ceremonies, picnics, and other events.

If you are interested in this position, or ATD in general, we want to talk with you!
*Salary Range: [$125,000]-[$145,000]. Starting salary will be based on the selected candidate's experience, qualifications, and skills. *
