STATUS/HOURS:             Hours vary by the number of tests proctored during the academic year.  Must also be available for prep meetings both virtually and in-person prior to exams.

Position Purpose

Assists in the administration of standardized testing (PSAT, SAT, ACT, Cambridge Assessment, and Advanced Placement) for the student body. Possible academic department exams throughout the year also.

Job Responsibilities

Stay updated and informed on all aspects of exam administration as per the College Board, ACT and Cambridge Assessment test coordinator/proctor guidelines. This includes being proficient in test format administration regarding Hybrid, paper based, and fully digital tests.

Before the exam

  • Read all of the general and the appropriate subject-specific exam administration instructions to understand the flow of the administration.
  • Prepare the exam rooms.
  • Set up exam equipment (CD players, computers, hand-held digital recorders and other technological devices). Proctors should familiarize themselves with equipment for tests that require special equipment. Proctors may also need to assist students with technology during the exam.
  • Proctors must competently implement approved accommodations.

During the exam

  • Bring all necessary materials to the exam room.
  • Admit and seat students.
  • Check identification of homeschooled students and/or students from other schools.
  • Distribute testing materials for both paper and digital exams or for College Board.
  • Supervise the testing room.
  • Walk around the room to ensure students are working on the correct exam section.
  • Guard against attempts at cheating.
  • Keep the room attended at all times.
  • Ensure that the proper seating distance is maintained between students.
  • Make sure all students have internet connection for digital exams and power for their laptop computers.
  • Will assist students who have issues with their digital exams, including connection and laptop issues.

After the exam

  • Collect and account for all exam materials.
  • Ensure that students do not take exam materials from the exam room.
  • Return exam materials to locked storage.
  • For digital exams, proctors need to make sure that all students successfully uploaded their exam to testing agency, and that all tasks have been completed in the Test Day Toolkit.

Education

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • College coursework preferred.
  • Please note: persons who are teachers (including AP Teachers) may proctor exams only in the subject areas they do not teach. 

    Experience

    • Experience working with adolescents in an educational setting preferred.

    • Ability to follow verbal and written directions, maintain a professional demeanor and restraint at all times, including stressful situations.
    Additional Requirements
    1. Successfully complete a criminal background check (reviewed every 5 years).
    2. Proctors are not allowed to have any conflicts of interest which include, but are not limited to, being an athletic coach at any level, or having any member of your household taking an exam at any point in the school year.
