Your role involves working closely with sales representatives to tailor solutions that meet client needs, while also coordinating with product and engineering teams to ensure proposed solutions are feasible. This collaborative environment requires strong communication skills and the ability to translate complex technical concepts for non-technical stakeholders.

What is a solutions engineer?

A solutions engineer provides solutions to network problems. It’s a highly technical position that often involves acting as a software developer to see development lifecycles through. As a solutions engineer, you usually work as part of a team to provide support for both the business and customers. Part of your job duties may involve developing training programs and providing advanced technical support. You spend most of your time working in front of a computer, troubleshooting problems and developing solutions. You must be able to think on your feet and have advanced knowledge of hardware and software limitations and specifications to succeed in this position.

Do solutions engineers make good money?

Solutions engineers typically earn competitive salaries that vary based on experience, location, and industry. Entry-level positions may start around $70,000 annually, while experienced professionals can earn over $120,000, especially with specialized skills in cloud platforms, programming, or sales support.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a solutions engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Solutions Engineer, you need a solid background in technical problem-solving, systems integration, and customer-facing experience, often supported by a degree in computer science, engineering, or a related field. Familiarity with CRM software, cloud platforms, APIs, and sometimes certifications like AWS Certified Solutions Architect are commonly required. Outstanding communication, active listening, and adaptability are crucial soft skills to understand client needs and present tailored solutions effectively. These skills and qualities are essential for bridging the gap between technical offerings and client requirements, ensuring project success and customer satisfaction.

Your Mission:

As we evolve our go-to-market strategy to focus on our Ideal Customer Profile (ICP), the Solutions Engineering role has shifted from a passive support function to a central driver of revenue. This role sits at the intersection of Sales, Product, and Customer Success, acting as the bridge between technical capability and business value.
Reporting to the Manager of Solutions Engineering and partnering closely with Account Executives (AEs), you will be responsible for owning the "technical win." This is a commercially-minded, high-urgency position for someone who wants to actively influence deal outcomes and shape how our product is presented to the market.
This is a remote role with a preference for candidates based in Toronto, Ontario or Utah. You will be expected to align with North American business hours to support Mid-Market and Enterprise deals across these time zones.

What You'll Do:

  • Help win deals: Improve deal quality, reduce friction, and increase close rates through strong technical and commercial execution
  • Run discovery & shape solutions: Uncover real business problems and translate them into tailored solutions and demo narratives
  • Deliver high-impact demos: Run structured, outcome-driven demos that clearly communicate business value (not feature walkthroughs)
  • Handle technical objections: Confidently address integration, scalability, and implementation questions in live deals
  • Stay hands-on with the product: Use and test the product regularly to strengthen demos and technical credibility
  • Partner cross-functionally: Work with Product and PMM to align on releases and share structured field feedback
  • Improve how we sell: Proactively identify gaps in demos, messaging, and sales execution and drive improvements

Who We're Looking For
:

  • 2+ years of experience as a Solutions Engineer / Sales Engineer in B2B SaaS
  • Strong technical foundation (APIs, integrations, SaaS workflows) with the ability to ramp quickly into complex products
  • Commercially minded: you care about winning deals and connecting technical work to revenue impact
  • Strong demo storyteller who can simplify complexity into clear customer value
  • Confident in discovery and technical objection handling across Mid-Market and Enterprise deals
  • Highly hands-on with the product and comfortable leading live conversations independently
  • Clear, structured communicator who builds trust quickly with both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Fast, proactive operator with strong ownership and follow-through
  • Collaborative partner to Sales, Product, and PMM who brings insights from the field

At AfterShip, we know great talent doesn't always fit every requirement. If you're passionate about our mission and believe you can make an impact, we encourage you to apply.
