The Position:

AMEWAS is seeking a highly motivated and talented Apprentice (Guardian)-Junior. The hourly range of this position is $27.00/hour. This position is not eligible for remote work; on-site support is required.

Position Background:

The Guardian Software Development team is responsible for periodic releases of the components that make up the Guardian Software Suite. They will provide safety critical engineering services for the Atlantic Test Range Guardian systems. The team provides engineering services to include Software Engineering, Independent Software and System Testing, System Fabrication, Information Technology (IT), Financial Management Analyst support, etc. to the Guardian program. Software Engineers support will include but not limited to design, development, documentation and testing of all components that make up the Guardian System software suite. The team will provide location site surveys, site installations and customer support services along with system component acquisition, publication development and configuration management.

A typical day as an Apprentice (Guardian)-Junior may include:

  • Supports the Guardian team
  • Develops software for a safety critical UAV Detect and Avoid system
  • Documents software to DO-278 standards
  • Supports software development, software integration, customer training and demonstrations
  • Demonstrates a knowledge of standard programming algorithms, design patterns and object-oriented software design
  • Evaluates and reviews C++ language code

Must-haves:

  • Current college student (entering Junior year or a current Junior) pursuing Computer Science Degree-Must have Sophomore year completed
  • Degree obtained from an accredited college or university as recognized by the U.S. Department of Education
  • Experience with scripting, database and programming in C/C++
  • AMEWAS willing to obtain and process full clearance-The ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret Security Clearance

Desired Skills:

  • Experience with Python or Java programming languages

Physical Environment and Working Conditions:

The physical environment for this position requires the employee to work in an office, sitting in a cubicle or at a desk, looking at a computer for most of the workday. Work is physically comfortable. The employee has discretion about sitting, walking, standing, etc.

The employee may be required to travel short distances to offices/conference rooms and buildings on site or near the work site.
