Job description

Overview
The Sales Engineer is responsible for technical solution design, customer discovery, and pre-sales engineering activities to support revenue growth and successful project execution. This role partners closely with Sales, Product, and Operations to ensure customer requirements are accurately captured, technically feasible, and aligned to Interface's solution portfolio.
Sales Engineers act as trusted advisors to customers, ensuring solutions are properly scoped, designed, and documented to enable efficient implementation at scale. This role is critical to delivering high-quality customer outcomes while maintaining design accuracy and operational efficiency.
Responsibilities
Customer Discovery & Solution Design
  • Conduct customer scoping sessions to understand business objectives, technical requirements, and operational constraints
  • Translate customer requirements into scalable, standardized Interface solutions
  • Design systems across video, access control, intrusion, and managed services environments
  • Evaluate existing customer infrastructure and determine reuse vs. replacement strategies
  • Provide "good / better / best" solution alternatives aligned to customer needs and budget

Technical Scoping & Documentation
  • Conduct on-site assessments and customer walkthroughs as needed
  • Produce detailed technical designs including:
    • Bill of materials (BOM)
    • Site layouts and architectures
    • Equipment specifications and infrastructure requirements
  • Document all assumptions, dependencies, and technical risks in the design package
  • Ensure all required documentation is complete prior to handoff to Project Management and Operations

Sales Partnership & Revenue Support
  • Partner with Sales to support deal strategy and customer engagements
  • Assist in RFP responses, proposals, and technical solution presentations
  • Provide product demonstrations and technical validation for prospective customers
  • Support development of ROI-based value propositions

Technical Feasibility & Risk Management
  • Assess solution feasibility across site conditions, infrastructure, and product capabilities
  • Identify and communicate risks early in the sales cycle
  • Recommend mitigation strategies and alternative approaches
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards and Interface best practices

Cross-Functional Collaboration
  • Work closely with:
    • Sales teams
    • Product Management
    • System Design Engineering
    • Operations and Field Services
  • Ensure alignment on scope, deliverables, and customer expectations
  • Support smooth transitions from pre-sales to implementation

Product & Solution Development Feedback
  • Identify gaps in current product offerings and provide feedback to Product teams
  • Participate in evaluation of new technologies and third-party solutions
  • Support pilot programs, AI/BI initiatives, and emerging solution development

Qualifications:
Required
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or related field (or equivalent experience)
  • 3+ years of experience in systems design, solution engineering, or technical pre-sales
  • Experience designing or supporting:
    • Video surveillance systems
    • Access control systems
    • Intrusion Security systems
  • Strong understanding of system integration and technical architecture

Preferred
  • Experience in managed services, security integration, or multi-site enterprise environments
  • Familiarity with AI, video analytics, or remote monitoring solutions
  • Experience working with distributed enterprise customers (retail, QSR, etc.)
