Seasonal line cooks are culinary professionals hired for a specific period, typically during a busy season like summer, holidays, or tourist peaks. They work in kitchens to prepare ingredients, cook dishes, and ensure food quality, often under the supervision of a chef. Seasonal line cooks are essential for restaurants, resorts, and catering services that experience fluctuating demand throughout the year.

The main difference between a Seasonal Line Cook and a Line Cook is the duration and nature of employment. Seasonal Line Cooks work temporarily during peak seasons or specific events, often in tourist-heavy locations, while Line Cooks typically work year-round in permanent restaurant settings. Both roles require similar skills and certifications, but their employment terms and work environments differ significantly.

What are the typical challenges faced by a Seasonal Line Cook during peak service times?

As a Seasonal Line Cook, one of the most common challenges is managing high volumes of orders efficiently during peak service periods, which often occur in busy seasons like summer or holidays. Maintaining quality and consistency under pressure, while working quickly, is crucial. You’ll also need to adapt to the fast-paced environment, collaborate closely with other kitchen staff, and handle a variety of tasks from prepping ingredients to plating dishes. Flexibility and strong communication skills are important, as menus or team members may change frequently in seasonal settings.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Seasonal Line Cook, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Seasonal Line Cook, you need basic culinary skills, knowledge of food safety, and experience in a fast-paced kitchen environment, often supported by a high school diploma or equivalent. Familiarity with commercial kitchen equipment, point-of-sale systems, and compliance with ServSafe certification requirements is typically expected. Strong teamwork, time management, and the ability to stay calm under pressure are essential soft skills. These abilities ensure efficient service, consistent food quality, and a smooth kitchen operation during busy seasonal periods.

Job description

Summer on the Lake. Real Kitchen. Real Season.

Seasonal Line Cook | The Wicked Loon | Wolfeboro, NH

Spend the season in the heart of Wolfeboro, New Hampshire, right on Lake Winnipesaukee, working in a real kitchen with a real team.

The Wicked Loon is a high-volume upscale waterfront restaurant located on the town docks, in one of New England's most vibrant summer communities. Summer in Wolfeboro means long days, busy nights, live music, local events, and everything that comes with lake life at its best.

As we head into our fourth summer, we're looking for a Seasonal Line Cook to join our team and help carry the kitchen through a busy season.

You'll be working under our Executive Chef in a kitchen that serves both lunch and dinner at a high level. This is a strong opportunity for someone who wants a real season, real volume, and a place that is worth showing up for.

Most importantly, you'll help take the kitchen into service, through service, and out of service - set up and ready before the rush, locked in during service, and cleaned down the right way at the end of the night.

We are looking for someone with a proven track record - a line cook who can step into a fast-paced kitchen, stay organized, communicate well, and take pride in what goes out on the plate.

What We're Looking For

We want someone who:

  • has solid line experience in a busy kitchen
  • works clean, fast, and with urgency
  • cares about food quality and consistency
  • can handle pressure without losing focus
  • shows up ready to work and pull their weight
  • respects the kitchen, the standards, and the team

This is not the right role for someone looking to coast through a summer. We are hiring carefully and looking for someone bona fide - someone who can contribute from day one and be a strong part of the team.

Why It's Worth It

This is a chance to spend the season in one of New Hampshire's best lake towns while working in a kitchen that is busy, established, and worth being part of.

You'll have the opportunity to:

  • work under an Executive Chef
  • sharpen your skills in a high-volume seasonal kitchen
  • be part of a strong summer crew
  • live and work in the heart of Wolfeboro on Lake Winnipesaukee
  • enjoy the energy, events, and lifestyle of a New England lake town in peak season
Housing

Housing is available for the right candidate through a shared apartment arrangement with a private bedroom. Housing is separate from compensation.
