Position Overview:
Under direction of the Director of Engineering, the Application/Sales Engineer will provide technical product design and integration of products to meet customer requirements. This position will work closely with Nelson account managers, Manufacturing engineer at the plants and Customer Engineering team to develop workable manufactural solutions and troubleshoot issues.
Primary Responsibilities & Duties:

  • Work closely with account management/customers to develop a workable fluid flow system layout and to identify and resolve system-level issues. Act as engineering face to customer
  • Design and integrate Exhaust products/systems for on highway and off highway markets to meet customer requirements
  • Generate/maintain detailed models of designs and system level Bill of Materials
  • Generate specifications for product (2D prints, Engineering specifications, etc.)
  • Initiate and coordinate the technical support work (including mechanical design, FEA and CFD analyses, acoustical, flow and vibration testing, drafting, prototypes, etc.) required to develop system components against technical profile deliverables
  • Work closely with manufacturing personnel to optimize designs for manufacturability and cost reduction
  • Ensure DFM (Design for Manufacturability) is implemented in development of design (DQR, DVA, Design Reviews, etc.)
  • Maintain and manage project schedules
  • Review/Approve/Process Customer Print Conformance
  • Travel to customer and supplier sites as necessary, perform on-site testing, and present our technology
  • Travel Required = 10-25%


Required Education & Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent educational degree is required.
  • Strong understanding of fluid mechanics and thermodynamics required
  • 3 to 5 years of experience as related to product design using solid modeling tools (Inventor preferred)


Preferred Experience Requirements:

  • Basic understanding of acoustics
  • Basic knowledge of vehicle chassis systems
  • Basic knowledge of exhaust components/aftertreatment
  • Six Sigma knowledge / skills
  • Basic knowledge of .NET programing
