Job description

About Us
We are a small USDA-inspected meat processing company focused on producing safe, high-quality products while maintaining strong food safety and sanitation standards.
We operate in a fast-paced, hands-on environment where everyone wears multiple hats and works together to solve problems and keep operations running smoothly.
Position Overview
The Food Safety Assistant supports daily food safety operations through documentation management, GMP monitoring, pre-operational inspections, sanitation verification, audit support, and production floor activities.
This is not a large corporate QA environment with narrowly defined responsibilities. We are looking for someone who is flexible, organized, resourceful, and comfortable adapting to changing priorities in a small business setting.
This role combines office-based documentation work with active production floor inspection and support responsibilities. Some days are heavily compliance and paperwork focused, while others require significant floor presence and operational support.
This is a support role that works closely with the Food Safety Manager on daily operations, delegated projects, organization, follow-through, and department support needs.
Daily pre-operational inspections begin at 5:00 AM prior to production startup.
Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct daily pre-operational inspections and sanitation verification
  • Monitor GMPs, employee practices, and operational risks
  • Maintain organized and audit-ready food safety records
  • Review logs, temperatures, and production documentation
  • Support HACCP, SSOP, GMP, and FSIS compliance activities
  • Communicate sanitation issues with 3rd party sanitation management
  • Assist with audits, reports, scorecards, labels, and spec sheets
  • Help track follow-up items, recurring issues, and department projects
  • Maintain active food safety presence on the production floor

What We're Looking For
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented
  • Dependable and consistent
  • Comfortable balancing office and production floor responsibilities
  • Resourceful and willing to research to problem solve
  • Able to adapt and shift priorities as operational needs change
  • Strong communication and follow-through skills
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced small business environment
  • Willing to ask questions instead of guessing
  • Able to work independently and as part of a team

Preferred Experience
  • Food manufacturing, meat processing, QA, or food safety experience preferred
  • HACCP, GMP, SSOP, USDA, or FSIS experience preferred
  • Audit, sanitation, or compliance documentation experience is a plus
  • Strong organizational and computer skills required

Schedule
  • Full-time position
  • Monday through Friday
  • 8-hour shifts
  • Daily start time of 5:00 AM
