Familiarity with technical diving equipment, underwater communication systems, and search-and-recovery tools like sonar is essential. Exceptional teamwork, situational awareness, and the ability to stay calm under pressure are critical soft skills. These abilities ensure safe and effective completion of underwater rescue, recovery, and investigative operations in often hazardous or unpredictable conditions.
A Public Safety Diver (PSD) is a professional trained to conduct underwater search, rescue, and recovery operations for law enforcement, fire departments, and other emergency response agencies. They recover evidence, assist in body recovery, and ensure underwater safety in hazardous conditions. PSDs must be skilled in low-visibility diving, underwater navigation, and using specialized equipment. Their work is often dangerous, requiring rigorous training and teamwork.
Public Safety Divers often operate in low-visibility, hazardous water environments, which can include swift currents, cold temperatures, or contaminated sites. They may be called out at any time, sometimes in adverse weather or complicated emergency situations, which requires adaptability and quick decision-making. Teamwork is crucial, as most tasks are performed alongside law enforcement, fire departments, or rescue units to locate evidence, recover vehicles, or assist in rescue efforts. These demanding conditions mean that divers must maintain a high level of physical fitness, mental resilience, and readiness to manage unexpected circumstances.

Job Summary/Essential Functions:
The Show Diver is primary responsible for providing the guests with an exhilarating show experience through performance diving or narration of various dive shows. This position answers to the Dive Safety Director and the Director of Education.
Overview:
Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following tasks:
• Performs hourly energetic, educational, and entertaining dive shows for guests.
• Adheres to all dive guidelines set forth by the Dive Safety Board.
• Must have knowledge of all exhibits including the animal life that is in each exhibit.
• Assists husbandry staff in cleaning and tank maintenance.
• Assists the husbandry staff in food prep and animal care.
Physical Requirements:
• Ability to lift up to 75 pounds.
• Ability to bend, stoop, and kneel in order to prepare equipment and assist with diver suiting.
• Must be able to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodations.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Certified to SCUBA dive by a nationally recognized training organization such as PADI
• First Aid/CPR certified
• Must be outgoing, energetic, and have good public speaking skills
