Norlee Group, Inc., is a multi-trade building systems organization delivering integrated electrical, mechanical, and technology solutions across commercial, industrial, institutional, and specialty markets. As part of our continued growth under the One Norlee platform, we are seeking a Safety Officer.

Position Summary:

The Safety Officer must plan, schedule, and prepare for work to reduce and eliminate hazards in advance. This role provides safety direction while ensuring adherence to all safety regulations and programs with the site leadership and employees. The Safety Officer must play a major role in helping to build a culture of personal awareness and safety accountability.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following.

  • Regularly inspecting the site to identify potential dangers and defective equipment
  • Developing and enforcing safety policies and procedures that comply with regulations
  • Providing safety training to workers and ensuring they understand and follow safety protocols
  • Conducting thorough investigations of accidents and near-miss incidents to determine the cause and prevent similar incidents
  • Assisting in the development and implementation of emergency response plans, including evacuation procedures and first aid protocols
  • Monitoring the site for compliance with safety regulations and standards, and ensuring suppliers comply with legislation
  • Preparing reports and submitting them to authorities, and documenting hazards and updated safety plans
  • Keeping up to date with standards and government regulations
  • Keeping meticulous records to ensure compliance with various laws
  • Scheduling maintenance for equipment and monitoring its condition
  • Conducting thorough risk assessments to identify potential hazards on construction sites and implanting effective control measures
  • Collaborating: Collaborating with FOM’s, PM’s, DOFO, Superintendents, and Safety Director, about integrating safety considerations into project planning and execution. (JHA’s, Toolbox Talks, Pre-Construction)

Education and/or Experience

A bachelor’s degree in a Safety related discipline or a combination of experience and education with a minimum of ten (10) years of verifiable construction experience with a minimum of three (3) years of relevant safety experience OSHA certified, First Aid/CPR certified.

Language/Interpersonal/Leadership Skills

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals; Ability to express opinions and ideas, both verbally and in writing, in a clear concise manner; Ability to listen; Keeps emotions under control; Demonstrates group presentation skills. Exhibits strong leadership qualities.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

Computer Skills

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have proficient computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office 365 tools including but not limited to Outlook, Word, Excel, Teams, PowerPoint.
