Job description

We are currently seeking a Japanese-English Bilingual Bookkeeper for the Japanese Tax Practice of a global CPA and advisory firm.
Location: New York / New Jersey (Remote within the U.S. / Hybrid as needed)
Employment Type: Full-time, Non-Exempt
Working Hours: Mondayโ€“Friday, 9:00 AMโ€“5:30 PM
Salary: $55,000โ€“$60,000/year (DOE)

The firm provides accounting, tax, and advisory services to a wide range of domestic and international clients. The Japanese Tax Practice primarily supports Japanese companies and individuals with operations and tax matters in the United States.
This position will be responsible for bookkeeping, payroll, tax compliance support, financial reporting, and day-to-day client communication. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, organized, highly communicative, and comfortable managing multiple client accounts in both Japanese and English.
The position is designed for candidates residing in New York or New Jersey and offers a primarily remote work environment. Occasional travel for client meetings, team meetings, or firm events may be required.
Accounting & Bookkeeping
  • Manage Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable
  • Perform bank, credit card, and balance sheet reconciliations
  • Record General Ledger entries and adjusting journal entries
  • Prepare and update monthly cash flow reports
  • Prepare financial statements, Profit & Loss Statements, and Cash Flow Statements
  • Assist with consolidated financial statements
  • Perform intercompany reconciliations between Japanese parent companies and U.S. subsidiaries
Payroll
  • Process payroll using ADP or Paychex
  • Prepare payroll-related journal entries
  • Calculate gross-up amounts
  • Review and calculate employee timesheets
Tax & Compliance Support
  • Prepare Sales & Use Tax filings
  • Prepare Property Tax filings
  • Prepare Forms 1096, 1099, and 1042
  • Assist with SOS filings and Annual Report submissions
  • Maintain Registered Agent information
  • Support Business License renewals
Client Support
  • Communicate with clients, vendors, banks, and other external parties
  • Respond to daily bookkeeping and accounting inquiries
  • Provide professional client service in both Japanese and English
  • Support Partners and Managers with special accounting and tax-related projects
Requirements
  • Authorized to work in the United States
  • Professional-level bilingual communication skills in Japanese and English
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or equivalent professional experience
  • Bookkeeping experience, including AP, AR, and bank reconciliations
  • Hands-on experience with QuickBooks
  • Basic knowledge of Bill.com
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Excel and Word
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to accurately manage multiple clients, projects, and deadlines
  • Excellent teamwork and communication skills
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working at a CPA firm or public accounting firm
  • Payroll experience using ADP or Paychex
  • CPA candidate, currently studying for the CPA exam, or partial CPA exam completion
  • EA certification is a plus
  • Experience supporting Japanese companies or Japanese corporate clients
