Experity is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to help design, build, modernize, and support the OnePACS medical imaging platform. This role will have a primary focus on our C# desktop medical image viewer while also contributing across Java services, PostgreSQL, React applications, REST APIs, and AWS-hosted infrastructure. This is a hands-on engineering role for someone who brings strong technical judgment, takes ownership of meaningful product areas, and consistently improves the quality, reliability, maintainability, and supportability of the platform. The Senior Software Engineer will work closely with the Staff Engineer, Product, QA, DevOps, Support, and other engineering partners. Success is measured not only by completed work, but by whether the codebase, platform, and engineering practice are stronger because of the engineer's contribution.

Responsibilities:

  • Design, develop, maintain, and modernize desktop and web applications used in medical imaging workflows.

  • Serve as a primary contributor to the C# desktop viewer while contributing across supporting Java services, PostgreSQL, React applications, REST APIs, and AWS infrastructure.

  • Deliver complete solutions from technical design through implementation, automated testing, release, production validation, and ongoing support.

  • Write clean, secure, efficient, testable, and maintainable code using sound engineering practices.

  • Partner with the Staff Engineer on architecture, modernization, technical standards, and complex design decisions.

  • Diagnose and resolve complex issues across application code, APIs, logs, data, cloud services, configuration, and customer workflows.

  • Improve observability, diagnostics, automated testing, documentation, and runbooks to make the platform easier to operate and support.

  • Identify and address technical debt, recurring defects, performance concerns, and reliability risks.

  • Use AI coding assistants responsibly and effectively for implementation, debugging, refactoring, testing, documentation, and legacy code analysis.

  • Participate in code reviews, technical design discussions, mentoring, pairing, and knowledge sharing.

  • Collaborate with Product, QA, DevOps, Support, and other stakeholders to clarify requirements and deliver practical technical solutions.

  • Work within Agile and Scrum practices while maintaining accountability for quality, predictability, and continuous improvement.

  • Consistently leave the codebase, platform, documentation, and team practices better than they were before.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field of equivalent combination of education and experience.

What You'll Bring:
  • Six or more years of professional software engineering experience.

  • Strong hands-on experience developing and supporting production applications using C# and .NET.

  • Experience building and maintaining Windows desktop applications.

  • Experience working with Java services, Spring Boot or comparable frameworks, and REST APIs.

  • Experience developing modern web applications using TypeScript, JavaScript, React, or comparable frameworks.

  • Strong SQL skills and practical experience working with PostgreSQL, including data investigation, query analysis, indexing, and application performance troubleshooting.

  • Hands-on experience working in AWS-hosted environments, including cloud configuration, deployment, observability, security, and production diagnostics.

  • Experience with distributed systems, object-oriented design, software design patterns, automated testing, and maintainable coding standards.

  • Experience troubleshooting production systems across application code, logs, data, infrastructure, configuration, and integrations.

  • Hands-on experience using AI coding assistants such as Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, OpenAI Codex, Kiro, Cline, or comparable tools.

  • Mature judgment regarding the value, limitations, security, quality, and responsible use of AI-assisted software development.

  • Experience with code reviews, source control, CI/CD pipelines, established release processes, and Agile or Scrum delivery.

  • Ability to communicate technical risks, tradeoffs, and recommendations clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders.

  • Experience mentoring engineers and influencing technical decisions without relying on formal authority.

Industry and Domain Experience:

Experience with several of the following is strongly preferred:

  • Medical imaging, PACS, radiology, teleradiology, diagnostic imaging, or healthcare interoperability platforms

  • DICOM, HL7, medical image routing, storage, retrieval, viewing, or related clinical workflows

  • Viewer technologies or frameworks such as ClearCanvas, Cornerstone, OHIF, or comparable imaging solutions

  • FDA-regulated software, Software as a Medical Device, healthcare compliance, HIPAA, PHI-sensitive environments, or other regulated software domains

  • High-volume, customer-facing platforms requiring strong reliability, performance, security, and operational discipline

Technical Experience:

Experience with several of the following is preferred:

Leadership Expectations:

The Senior Software Engineer will be expected to:

  • Lead through technical credibility, sound judgment, and consistent execution.

  • Remain hands-on and close to implementation details.

  • Take ownership of meaningful product and platform areas.

  • Raise risks early and recommend pragmatic solutions.

  • Improve systems instead of repeatedly working around deficiencies.

  • Partner effectively with the Staff Engineer while independently owning day-to-day technical execution.

  • Mentor engineers and strengthen the technical capability of the team.

  • Improve quality, documentation, diagnostics, testing, and repeatability.

  • Build shared ownership and reduce dependency on individual knowledge.

  • Contribute to a culture of engineering excellence and continuous improvement.

Preferred Background:

The strongest candidates may come from backgrounds such as:

  • Medical imaging, PACS, radiology, healthcare interoperability, or diagnostic software

  • Complex Windows desktop application development
