This role will primarily support TaxAct as the organization helps everyday Americans file their taxes. We seek to build a team of experts in tax and technology who are customer advocates and have the mindset to reimagine the services our customers receive.
POSITION SUMMARY:
As a remote, seasonal 1040 Full Service Xpert, you'll play a critical role in helping individuals across the U.S. confidently and accurately file their federal and state income tax returns. This is a fully remote position offering flexibility, professional growth, and the opportunity to make a real impact during tax season. This is a seasonal, virtual, customer-facing role.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Major responsibilities of the seasonal 1040 Full Service Xpert position are listed below. To perform the job successfully, the individual must be able to execute each essential duty satisfactorily.   • Prepare, review, and e-file individual federal and state income tax returns (Form 1040 series) using our secure online platforms.

  • Interview clients using standardized forms and tools to gather complete and accurate financial information.

  • Communicate directly with clients via secure video and audio platforms to review returns with clients, address questions, and obtain necessary authorizations (e.g., Form 8879 or state equivalents) for e-filing.

  • Request, organize, and manage tax documents, including sending and receiving Form 8879 (or state equivalents) and securely storing all relevant client documentation.

  • Follow defined workflows and procedures to ensure returns are accurately prepared, reviewed, and filed in a timely manner.

  • Provide expert tax advice in plain, everyday language, explaining how tax laws apply to the client's individual situation.

  • Research complex tax issues using trusted government and industry sources.

  • Ensure compliance with IRS Circular 230, the Internal Revenue Code, Treasury regulations, and all relevant state and local laws.

  • Maintain confidentiality of sensitive personal and financial data at all times.

  • May be cross-trained on other product lines in order to support other queues, as needed.

  • Additional job duties as needed.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
  • Who You Are

  • A seasoned tax professional with:

  • 3+ years of paid experience preparing federal and state individual income tax returns.

  • Proven experience with e-filing processes and online tax software.

  • Strong working knowledge of IRS Circular 230 and applicable state tax regulations.

  • A skilled communicator who is:

  • Customer-focused and passionate about helping people.

  • Able to deliver complex information clearly and compassionately.

  • Professional, friendly, and confident in remote client interactions.

  • A reliable and detail-oriented team player who:

  • Follows defined workflows and deadlines.

  • Works independently in a fast-paced, virtual environment.

  • Demonstrates sound judgment, confidentiality, and integrity.

  • Required Qualifications

  • Active, unrestricted Enrolled Agent (EA) or CPA credential.

  • Active PTIN (Preparer Tax Identification Number).

  • Must be legally authorized to prepare and file taxes in any applicable state(s) where expertise is claimed.

  • Proficiency with commercial tax preparation software; TaxAct Professional experience a plus.

  • Access to a private, quiet workspace with a hardwired, high-speed internet connection meeting company security standards.

  • Must meet all licensing, certification, and bonding requirements applicable to your state of residence.

  • Must have (or be willing to obtain) a private, dedicated hardwired internet connection.

  • Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting clients in a 100% remote environment.

  • Prior use of TaxAct platforms.

  • Familiarity with client onboarding and digital documentation workflows.
