Job description

Antitrust & Competition Associate Attorney
Location: New York, NY or Washington, DC

Direct Counsel is seeking a mid-level Antitrust & Competition Associate Attorney to join the Antitrust practice of a leading Am Law firm. This position offers the opportunity to work on complex antitrust matters related to mergers and acquisitions, regulatory filings, and government investigations in a sophisticated and collaborative practice.

Responsibilities
  • Advise clients on antitrust and competition issues in connection with mergers, acquisitions, and other strategic transactions.

  • Prepare and manage Hart-Scott-Rodino (HSR) filings and provide guidance on reportability requirements.

  • Coordinate foreign antitrust filings and multi-jurisdictional regulatory analyses.

  • Assist in Second Request investigations and other government antitrust reviews.

  • Draft and negotiate antitrust-related provisions in transaction agreements, including risk-shifting covenants.

  • Manage document reviews, regulatory responses, and compliance with antitrust agency requirements.

  • Collaborate with transactional teams to identify and mitigate antitrust risk in complex deals.

  • Utilize legal technology tools and document review platforms to support antitrust investigations and filings.

Qualifications
  • 4–5 years of antitrust experience in a law firm and/or government setting.

  • Demonstrated experience handling HSR filings and merger review matters.

  • Experience advising on antitrust aspects of mergers and acquisitions.

  • Experience with Second Request investigations or agency reviews strongly preferred.

  • Familiarity with document review platforms or AI-assisted legal technology tools is a plus.

  • Strong academic credentials and excellent legal research, writing, and analytical skills.

  • Ability to manage multiple complex matters in a fast-paced environment.

  • JD from an ABA-accredited law school.

  • Active bar admission in New York or Washington, DC, or ability to obtain admission promptly.

Compensation

The expected salary range for this position is $290,000 – $310,000, depending on experience, qualifications, and internal equity considerations. A comprehensive benefits package is also offered.
