Job description

Meta's data center infrastructure depends on a reliable, cost-effective, and sustainable energy supply to power some of the world's most advanced computing facilities. As Head of Wholesale Energy Supply, you will define and lead Meta's global strategy for procuring wholesale electricity, shaping how the company secures long-term power capacity across deregulated and regulated energy markets. In this role, you will drive large-scale power purchase agreements, wholesale market participation strategies, and energy procurement frameworks that directly enable data center capacity planning and Meta's clean energy commitments.
Head of Wholesale Energy Supply Responsibilities:
  • Define and execute Meta's global wholesale energy procurement strategy, including long-term power purchase agreements, capacity contracts, and wholesale market participation across multiple grid regions
  • Lead complex negotiations with independent power producers, utilities, grid operators, and energy developers for large-scale electricity supply agreements supporting data center load growth
  • Partner with capacity planning, data center development, and infrastructure teams to align energy supply timelines with facility commissioning schedules and long-term demand forecasts
  • Develop and maintain relationships with regional transmission organizations, independent system operators, and regulatory bodies to monitor market rule changes and advocate for Meta's energy interests
  • Oversee wholesale energy portfolio management, including contract performance tracking, counterparty risk assessment, and supply adequacy analysis across geographies
  • Collaborate with finance and accounting teams to structure energy contracts that optimize capital efficiency, hedge price exposure, and meet financial reporting requirements
  • Lead cross-functional teams evaluating new energy markets, grid interconnection opportunities, and emerging wholesale procurement mechanisms such as virtual power purchase agreements and energy storage contracts
  • Provide executive-level reporting on energy supply risk, market conditions, procurement pipeline status, and progress toward clean energy and carbon-free energy targets
  • Build and develop a team of energy procurement professionals, establishing best practices, analytical frameworks, and scalable processes for wholesale energy sourcing at hyperscale

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Experience working with regional transmission organizations, independent system operators, or wholesale electricity market structures across multiple grid regions
  • Experience managing energy portfolio risk, including counterparty exposure, price hedging, and supply adequacy planning at a portfolio scale
  • 12+ years of experience in wholesale energy procurement, power markets, or energy supply strategy within large-scale industrial, utility, or technology infrastructure contexts
  • Experience leading cross-functional initiatives and presenting energy supply strategy, market analysis, and contract recommendations to executive leadership
  • Experience negotiating and executing large-scale power purchase agreements, wholesale supply contracts, or capacity agreements in deregulated electricity markets
  • Bachelor's degree in a directly related field, or equivalent practical experience

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Demonstrated ability to integrate AI tools to optimize/redesign workflows and drive measurable impact (e.g., efficiency gains, quality improvements)
  • Experience adhering to and implementing responsible, ethical AI practices (e.g., risk assessment, bias mitigation, quality and accuracy reviews)
  • Demonstrated ongoing AI skill development (e.g., prompt/context engineering, agent orchestration) and staying current with emerging AI technologies
  • Experience procuring wholesale energy in support of hyperscale data center or large industrial load growth, including coordination with capacity planning and infrastructure development teams
  • Experience adhering to and implementing responsible, ethical AI practices (e.g., risk assessment, bias mitigation, quality and accuracy reviews)
  • Demonstrated ongoing AI skill development (e.g., prompt/context engineering, agent orchestration) and staying current with emerging AI technologies
  • Experience engaging with utility commissions, grid operators, or legislative bodies on energy market policy matters relevant to large electricity consumers
  • Familiarity with carbon-free energy procurement mechanisms, including 24/7 clean energy matching, virtual power purchase agreements, and energy attribute certificate markets
