Job description

Multi-State · Remote or Hybrid

Do you love clean, accurate, on-time payroll — and want real ownership of how it runs? A growing, multi-state organization is hiring a Payroll Manager to lead end-to-end payroll for a high-volume workforce and serve as the go-to expert and system owner for ADP Workforce Now. This is a high-impact, high-visibility role where your attention to detail and process-improvement mindset get felt across the entire organization.

Why You'll Love This Role

  • Real ownership. You'll run the full payroll operation across multiple U.S. locations and own ADP Workforce Now end to end — configurations, earnings codes, deductions, workflows, and reporting all run through you.
  • Visible impact. Your audits, controls, and process improvements directly protect employees' paychecks and the organization's compliance and audit readiness.
  • Strong partnerships. You'll work shoulder to shoulder with HR, Finance, Operations, leadership, and vendors — this role sits right at the center of it all.
  • Room to build. We want someone who improves the process, not just maintains it. Bring your ideas.

What You'll Do

Payroll Processing & Administration

  • Lead biweekly, multi-state payroll for both hourly and salaried employees with accuracy, timeliness, and full compliance
  • Run detailed audits across timekeeping, overtime, labor allocations, pay codes, bonuses, deductions, garnishments, and direct deposits
  • Administer high-volume garnishments (child support, tax levies, creditor orders) from setup through remittance
  • Partner with HR on employee data (hires, terminations, transfers, comp changes, leaves) and with Finance on reconciliations and journal entries
  • Develop and continuously improve payroll procedures and internal controls

Benefits Reconciliation & Billing

  • Validate and reconcile benefit deductions (medical, dental, vision, FSA, HSA, 401(k)) each cycle
  • Audit payroll files against vendor reports and reconcile carrier invoices, resolving discrepancies and securing corrections
  • Support year-end activities and 401(k) audits

Systems, Compliance & Reporting

  • Own and optimize payroll within ADP Workforce Now
  • Keep operations compliant with federal and multi-state wage, hour, and payroll tax laws
  • Support W-2, ACA/1095-C, payroll tax, and workers' comp reporting, plus internal and external audits

What You Bring

  • 5+ years of progressive, full-cycle multi-state payroll experience in a high-volume environment
  • 2+ years leading payroll operations, processes, or projects
  • Current, hands-on ADP Workforce Now experience (required)
  • Strong command of federal and multi-state payroll laws, wage and hour rules, garnishments, and payroll tax compliance
  • Advanced Excel plus HRIS/payroll systems savvy
  • Sharp analytical and reconciliation skills, exceptional attention to detail, and a track record of hitting deadlines in a fast-paced setting
  • Sound judgment and discretion with confidential information
  • Bachelor's degree in HR, Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field preferred (equivalent experience considered)

Nice to Have

  • CPP certification
  • Experience with benefits deduction reconciliation and vendor billing

If you're a payroll pro who takes pride in getting it right, loves a clean reconciliation, and wants genuine ownership of a modern, multi-state operation, we'd love to meet you. Apply today.

This is a confidential search. The hiring organization's name will be shared with qualified candidates during the interview process.
