Positional Overview
The Imagine Group is hiring a Payroll Tax Analyst on behalf of our client, a leading financial organization in Buffalo, New York. Successful candidates will be responsible for all payroll tax activities, including compliance with local, state, and federal regulations and filing local, state, and federal payroll tax returns with the vendor. The resource will cover large multi-state and local jurisdictions throughout the United States with multiple companies and 23,000+ employees, work closely with the payroll team, internal and external auditors, tax vendor, and state and federal agencies biweekly and quarterly tax deposits, reconciliations, returns and amendments.
The role is fully remote, with a preference for candidates working in the Eastern or Central time zones. Occasional overtime may be required during quarter-end and year-end periods.
Role & Responsibility:
Tasks That Will Lead To Your Success
- Review and maintain employee federal, state, multi-state, and local payroll tax setups based on work and residence locations.
- Perform biweekly payroll tax reconciliations between Workday Payroll and ADP Smart Compliance.
- Audit employee tax records for accuracy and process necessary adjustments to taxes, taxable wages, earnings, and deductions.
- Support quarter-end and year-end payroll tax processing, including reconciliations, filings, audits, W-2s, and related tax forms.
- Research and assist with resolving payroll tax notices, agency correspondence, discrepancies, penalties, and filing issues.
- Pull and validate payroll tax data for internal, state, federal, and external audit requests.
- Collect data for payroll tax KPIs and assist with improving related reporting and tracking processes.
- Support testing and implementation activities associated with payroll tax systems or third-party tax withholding solutions.
- Create recurring payroll tax reports for Payroll, Finance, Accounting, and management.
- Partner with the Payroll, Payroll Accounting, HR Service Center, ADP, and applicable tax agencies to resolve payroll tax matters.
Skills & Experience
Qualifications That Will Help You Thrive
- Minimum of 2โ3 years of payroll tax experience.
- Working knowledge of payroll tax withholding, multi-state and local payroll tax regulations, reconciliations, tax deposits, returns, and amendments.
- General payroll processing experience with an understanding of end-to-end payroll operations.
- Strong Microsoft Excel skills, including PivotTables, VLOOKUPs, data validation, and reconciliation.
- Experience reviewing employee tax records, identifying discrepancies, and maintaining accurate payroll tax setups.
- Ability to perform detailed analytical work while managing multiple priorities and meeting payroll deadlines.
Education and Experience Preferred
- Experience using Workday Payroll.
- Experience using ADP Smart Compliance.
- Experience supporting payroll tax operations for a large, multi-state workforce.
- Experience working with complex local tax jurisdictions, including Pennsylvania, Ohio, and Kentucky.
- Bachelorโs degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field.
- Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) certification.
