Job description

Do you enjoy finding great people more than waiting for them to apply?

Propel Swim Academy is hiring a Recruiting & People Operations Manager to help us maintain the staffing levels we need to grow. Our biggest hiring need is swim instructors, and the right person will treat recruiting as an active relationship-building function: connecting with schools and colleges, developing community sources, improving job ads, conducting interviews, studying the funnel, and trying new approaches when a pipeline slows down.

This is also a People Operations role. Once someone joins Propel, you will help ensure that onboarding, benefits, recognition, reviews, raises, internal promotions, and offboarding are organized and consistent.

What You’ll Do

Work with Operations each week to establish staffing requirements and hiring priorities.

Proactively source candidates through colleges, schools, referrals, community relationships, job boards, social media, and hiring events.

Manage job advertisements, candidate pipelines, recruiting data, and approved recruiting spend.

Screen candidates and conduct phone, in-person, and on-the-job interviews.

Decide which applicants advance before the final interview and provide direct managers with clear recommendations.

Determine starting pay within approved structures and send offer letters after final hiring approval.

Coordinate onboarding, benefits, PTO, tuition assistance, employee recognition, annual reviews, biannual raises, internal promotions, and offboarding.

Manage an Administrative Assistant who supports multiple departments.

Serve on Propel’s Leadership Team and participate in our weekly EOS Level 10 Meeting.

Provide light organizational coordination for the Community Outreach Team during a transition.

What We’re Looking For

A proactive source-builder who does not depend exclusively on inbound applicants.

A warm, confident communicator who connects with high school and college-age candidates.

An organized operator who can manage details without losing sight of staffing outcomes.

A thoughtful interviewer who balances urgency with high standards.

A curious problem-solver who uses data and experiments to improve results.

A capable people manager who can prioritize work across departments and escalate conflicts appropriately.

Someone flexible enough to meet the needs of the work while maintaining a reliable, visible schedule.

Experience

Relevant experience may come from recruiting, talent acquisition, staffing, admissions, sales, community engagement, hospitality, education, recreation, or People operations. A bachelor’s degree is not required. We care more about demonstrated results, initiative, judgment, and follow-through.

Schedule and Location

This is a full-time, flexible, work-needs-based position connected to our South Riding, Virginia facility. Work may happen on-site, remotely, or in the community depending on where it can be done most effectively.

The position includes one on-site 4:00-8:00 p.m. shift each week as the senior leader present, plus occasional weekend hiring or staff events, weekend interviews, weekday evenings, and weekday mornings. Candidates seeking a fully remote or fixed weekday-only position will not be a fit.

Compensation and Benefits

$70,000-$80,000 base salary.

Performance bonus opportunity of up to 5% of annual base salary.

Health insurance and paid time off.

Tuition assistance for eligible employees.

Family swim-lesson discounts and free uniforms.

Company events and meals.

Company-paid leadership coaching through the Clark Leadership Group.

Why Propel?

Learning to swim changes what people can safely and confidently do for the rest of their lives. Our team brings that mission to life every day. We are building a company where high standards and genuine care reinforce each other, and our goal is to build the best swim school in the country.

Apply

Send us your resume and answer the screening questions below. Tell us how you have built momentum when a recruiting, sales, admissions, or outreach pipeline was not producing enough qualified people.
