Job description

This position is responsible for the supervision, audit, and control of a hotel front desk, and housekeeping departments.
Responsibilities
  • Provide the highest quality of service to the customer at all times.
  • Meet and greet guest, ensure all front desk and housekeeping staff provide an air of gracious hospitality to all guests.
  • Manage and coordinate the activities of assigned staff.
  • Interpret company policies and provide a safe working environment by ensuring compliance with safety programs and job safety analysis.
  • Monitor and ensure compliance with all Guidelines for Operations. Ensure adherence to the Guarantee of Fair Treatment policy.
  • Orient and train new associates. Conduct ongoing training of assigned associates to increase job knowledge and skill level. Counsel on career development.
  • Monitor uniform standards.
  • Conduct monthly department meetings to review new procedures and solicit input from all associates. Keep detailed minutes on file.
  • Establish an effective communication system. Promote teamwork and associate morale. Interpret job specifications to Front Desk and Housekeeping staff and assign duties.
  • Analyze and resolve work problems or assist associates in solving work problems. Initiate or suggest plans to motivate associates to achieve work related goals.
  • Complete daily bank count, change orders, make daily deposits and log
  • Responsible for Front Desk, and Housekeeping Inventory Systems. Prepares weekly schedule; coordinates personnel scheduling between departments as needed; inputs weekly payroll; completes weekly progress report and reconciles with budget.
  • Maintain accounting of purchases and process invoices; responsible for input, coding, and filing of invoices. Have a thorough knowledge of Accounts Receivable. Maximize unit room revenue through effective use of sales options, ensure the proper balance and mix of rooms, and that rooms are sold to maximize revenue. Monitor fluctuations and trends in volume of rooms sold to be used in short and long term forecasting.
  • Ensure that all equipment is maintained in accordance with service standards and that outages are reported and resolved in a timely manner. Recommend or initiate personnel actions, such as promotions, reviews, transfers, discharges, and disciplinary measures. Adhere to wage scales for the property. Be knowledgeable of associate benefits procedures and administration.
  • Investigate and resolve balances in house accounts and direct bills; rebates and charge backs. Supervise and reconcile cash controls for each shift. Ensure that all credit policies are being followed and that the credit report is resolved daily.
  • Develop purchase and production requirements based on daily inventories and order lead times. Meet or exceed Hotel's sales and profit objectives. Maintain costs at or below budget percentages and controllable costs below budget. Ensures labor staffing guidelines are efficient and followed by departments.
  • Supervisory responsibilities: Manages subordinate supervisors or other associates to include interviewing, hiring, and training associates; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining associates; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
  • This position is responsible for the supervision of staff.
  • Other duties that are pertinent to the department or unit's success also may be assigned.

Qualifications
  • At least two years of post-secondary training related to hotel administration, business administration, marketing and finance, etc. is required.
  • Proven management experience must include at least 2 years of supervision of more than ten employees.
  • Proven knowledge of managing, planning and organizing the type of activities in assigned area with the ability to address the technical matters involved is required.
  • Must have experience with budgets, financial reporting and cost analysis.
  • A valid Driver's License and an acceptable driving record for the past three (3) years to be eligible under NMS' vehicle insurance policy.

Weather: Indoors: environmentally controlled; requires most or all work to be done inside. Occasionally exposed to arctic conditions.
Noise level: Moderate
Description of environment: This is an industrial hotel.
Physical requirements: Employee is required to lift and/or move up to 35lbs. Frequently required to sit, stand, walk, use hands/fingers to handle or feel, climb, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, talk/hear, see, taste/smell, and carry weight/lift.
