Job description

Technique is looking for a Quoting Specialist to join our team at our Jackson, Michigan facility. This role involves creating quotes for a wide variety of prototype and low volume parts including stampings, bent tubing, and assemblies, as well as related tools and fixtures. The Quoting Specialist will manage incoming CAD data and customer prints to prepare quote packages in a timely manner, utilize SolidWorks to overlay new and old revisions to determine part changes for quoting, and create job routers and purchasing routers for distribution to respective departments.
The ideal candidate brings an associate's degree or equivalent with a background in cost estimating or quoting, along with 1-2 years of work experience in a related field. SolidWorks proficiency, blueprint reading competency, and a basic understanding of GD&T, metal forming, tube bending, and machining is essential. The ability to multitask and work effectively under deadlines in a high-pressure environment is critical to success in this role.
Responsibilities:
  • Workplace safety - Adhere to all company and department-specific safety procedures as an essential function of the position.
  • Overtime and schedule flexibility - Work overtime and maintain flexibility in work schedule as required by business needs.
  • SolidWorks operation - Work with SolidWorks to support quoting and estimating activities.
  • GD&T application - Apply a basic understanding of GD&T principles to quoting and blueprint review.
  • Blueprint reading - Read and interpret blueprints and customer prints to prepare accurate quote packages.
  • Manufacturing process knowledge - Apply a basic understanding of metal forming, tube bending, and machining to develop accurate cost estimates.
  • Multitask under pressure - Manage multiple quoting projects simultaneously and work effectively in high-pressure situations under deadlines.
  • Follow senior estimator direction - Take direction from the Level 2 Cost Estimator to complete quoting assignments and learn department processes.
  • E2 MRP system - Maintain a basic understanding of the E2 MRP system and enter data accurately.
  • Material usage estimation - Estimate material usage for bent tube and bent parts with basic knowledge of materials.
  • Material pricing - Send out material quotes for updated pricing to ensure accurate cost estimates.
  • Advanced SolidWorks and SpaceClaim - Demonstrate competency in SolidWorks and SpaceClaim for advanced quoting tasks (Level 2).
  • MRP software proficiency - Demonstrate competency in utilizing MRP software (E2) for estimating workflows (Level 2).
  • Schedule planning - Plan work schedule based on customer needs and company priorities (Level 2).
  • Customer interface - Interface with customers during technical discussions to ensure the success of new products (Level 2).
  • Revision overlays - Utilize SolidWorks to overlay new and old revisions to determine part changes for quoting (Level 2).
  • Material usage calculation - Calculate material usage for drawn and formed parts with reasonable accuracy (Level 2).

Requirements:
  • Associate's degree or equivalent with a background in cost estimating or quoting
  • 1-2 years of work experience in a related field (Level 1); 3-5 years for Level 2
  • Extensive knowledge of manufacturing processes and equipment, especially metal stampings (Level 2)
  • Knowledge of CAD systems and the ability to create prints and perform overlays between different part revisions (Level 2)
  • Extreme attention to detail with the ability to accurately manage large amounts of data and incoming information (Level 2)
  • A background with contract review (purchase orders) is a plus (Level 2)
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Ability to frequently lift and/or move up to 20 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
  • This position requires prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer, with occasional climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling
  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus
  • Comfortable working in a manufacturing environment with exposure to fumes or airborne particles, hazardous chemicals, moving mechanical parts, industrial equipment, vibration, and loud noise
  • No travel required for this position
  • Must be eligible to work in the United States

Position Type and Expected Hours:
This is a full-time, non-exempt position with a minimum of 40 hours per week with overtime as needed. Note: days and hours required may vary. Flexibility is required in all positions.
