Job description

Purchasing Manager
LHH is seeking a Purchasing Manager for our client, a consumer products company in East Haven, CT. This individual will be responsible for purchasing packaging materials, components, and related supplies that support manufacturing and distribution operations. The Purchasing Manager will manage vendor relationships, negotiate pricing, monitor inventory levels, and ensure the timely delivery of packaging products to support production schedules and customer demand.
Procurement & Purchasing
  • Source and purchase packaging materials, cartons, labels, corrugated products, plastic components, and other production-related supplies.
  • Prepare, issue, and manage purchase orders and supplier agreements.
  • Monitor inventory levels and coordinate replenishment activities to maintain uninterrupted production operations.
  • Track supplier lead times, product availability, and delivery schedules.
Vendor Management
  • Develop and maintain relationships with packaging suppliers, manufacturers, and distribution partners.
  • Negotiate pricing, terms, and service agreements to maximize value and control costs.
  • Evaluate supplier performance related to quality, delivery, and responsiveness.
Cost Control & Analysis
  • Analyze purchasing trends and material costs to identify savings opportunities.
  • Partner with operations and finance teams to support budget and inventory objectives.
  • Assist with demand forecasting and procurement planning.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
  • Work closely with production, warehouse, quality, and supply chain teams to ensure material availability.
  • Proactively address supply shortages, delays, and inventory issues.
  • Support new product launches and packaging updates by coordinating material procurement.
Compliance & Documentation
  • Maintain accurate purchasing records, supplier files, contracts, and purchase orders.
  • Ensure procurement activities comply with company policies and quality standards.
  • Generate reports on purchasing activity, inventory levels, and supplier performance.
Required Skills & Qualifications
  • Previous experience in purchasing, procurement, supply chain, or inventory management.
