What does a Purchasing Intern do?

A Purchasing Intern supports the procurement or purchasing department by assisting with tasks such as sourcing suppliers, processing purchase orders, managing inventory records, and communicating with vendors. They help ensure that materials and products are acquired efficiently and cost-effectively. This role provides hands-on experience in supply chain management and purchasing procedures, often involving data entry, research, and administrative support. It's an opportunity for students or recent graduates to learn about procurement processes in a real-world business environment.

What are some typical responsibilities a Purchasing Intern can expect during their internship?

As a Purchasing Intern, you can expect to assist with a variety of tasks including researching potential suppliers, obtaining and comparing quotes, processing purchase orders, and maintaining accurate records of procurement activities. You may also support the team by tracking orders, following up on deliveries, and helping to evaluate supplier performance. This role offers valuable exposure to the negotiation process and collaboration with different departments such as finance and logistics, providing a solid foundation for a career in supply chain or procurement.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Purchasing Intern, and why are they important?
