The Role

CAA is seeking an assistant to support an Agent in our Book Publishing department. Book Publishing represents award-winning and bestselling writers and storytellers across a wide range of disciplines including fiction, non-fiction, biographies, memoirs, cookbooks, children's books, and more. Some recent bestsellers include THE FATE OF THE DAY by historian Rick Atkinson, CO-INTELLIGENCE: LIVING AND WORKING WITH AI by Ethan Mollick, and HOW TO RULE THE WORLD by Theo Baker. This is an opportunity for someone who wants to learn and play a role in the long-term development of the Book Publishing department's business in D.C. Assistants are an important part of the CAA structure, and it is hoped that the successful candidate will ultimately become an Agent within the company.

Responsibilities

  • Provide administrative support including heavy phones and email, coordinating meetings, preparing required materials in advance of meetings, managing schedules and travel, and preparing expense reports

  • Serve as first point of contact with clients, buyers and external constituents

  • Liaise with internal colleagues and act as a departmental and interdepartmental resource

  • Assist with special projects, research, and compiling information as needed

  • Read manuscripts and provide a point of view on stories being told

  • Assist in tracking client projects, client billing, and accounting needs

  • Stay up to date on the publishing landscape, popular culture, entertainment, sports, and politics

Qualifications

  • BA/BS from an accredited University or College preferred

  • Ideally 1 year of relevant administrative experience within the entertainment, media, or prior publishing industry experience a plus

  • Outgoing, collaborative, creative thinker, with a love of literature and reading

  • Excellent phone demeanor, superlative written and verbal communication

  • Strong interpersonal skills, while understanding the importance of diplomacy and confidentiality

  • Detail-oriented and extremely organized, with the ability to see the bigger picture and anticipate needs in advance

  • Adaptable, adept at problem solving

  • Ability to work well under pressure and meet tight deadlines while managing multiple projects and expectations

  • Technologically proficient with virtual meeting platforms, Microsoft Office and managing data

Compensation

The base hourly rate for this position is in the range of $20.00-$22.00. This position also is eligible for benefits and discretionary bonus. Ultimately, wages may vary based upon, but not limited to, relevant experience, time in role, business sector, and geographic location, among other criteria.
