Description
We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Product Development Engineer to join our Innovation and Product Development Group. The ideal candidate will have many years of experience in SolidWorks and experience with mechanical design and manufacturing processes.
This position will be responsible for all aspects related to designing and delivering innovative lock and locking device solutions, including oversight and preparation of submittals, fabrication drawings, procurement documents, mock-ups, sampling, and testing. The engineer will also play a key role in streamlining processes, making design modifications, and supporting product development from concept through production.
Additional responsibilities include coordinating scheduling, preparing installation and test documentation, and ensuring successful project close-out. Occasional travel may be required to support product launches, testing, or supplier coordination.
This role requires strong technical skills, problem-solving abilities, and the ability to work collaboratively with our engineering, CAD, purchasing, fabrication, project management, and field installation teams, as well as external partners.

Responsibilities:
- Design and modify lock and locking device components using SolidWorks to improve efficiency and functionality.
- Prepare and oversee submittals, fabrication drawings, procurement documents, and installation drawings.
- Develop prototypes, perform mock-ups, and conduct sampling and testing to validate designs.
- Identify opportunities to streamline products and processes throughout the product lifecycle.
- Coordinate scheduling, testing, and documentation for product development projects.
- Collaborate with internal teams (engineering, CAD, purchasing, fabrication, project management, field installation) and external partners.
- Occasionally travel to support product launches, testing, or supplier coordination.
Qualifications:
- Proficiency in SolidWorks and other CAD tools.
- Strong understanding of mechanical design principles and manufacturing processes.
- Ability to troubleshoot, innovate, and adapt designs for streamlined production.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills.
- Willingness to travel as needed.
Preferred Skills:
- Experience working in SolidWorks or similar CAD software (MicroStation, Capital M, AutoCAD).
- Proven ability to streamline products and processes for efficiency and cost reduction.
- Hands-on experience with testing, mock-ups, and sampling during product development.
- Strong problem-solving skills, excellent work ethic, and ability to plan effectively and stay focused on project goals.
