A product development engineer designs manufactured goods by integrating market research to deliver products that will meet company goals. As a product development engineer, you will be working on all stages of the production process, from research and development to prototype testing and quality assurance. You may work in any number of fields, from the automotive industry or medical device manufacturing to developing new soaps or food products. Typically, you work as part of a team, sometimes leading a group of engineers through the design and production process. Your duties include creating drafts and blueprints, assessing proper materials, setting goals, and researching competitive products.

To become a product development engineer, you need a minimum of a bachelor’s degree in engineering, as well as several years of job experience working on a development team. Some industries require a more specific degree. For example, a biotechnology employer might require you to have majored in medical engineering and be familiar with healthcare regulations. To increase your hiring opportunities, you can get licensed as a professional engineer or complete a master’s degree. Job Summary

We are currently seeking an innovative Product Development Engineer to work with our talented team of engineers and designers. In this role, you will help design new products, assisting with proof-of-concept and prototype testing. You will also review existing designs, supporting the enhancement or revision of our current products. Applicants must have a bachelor's or master's degree in mechanical engineering as well as experience with 3D design software, such as SolidWorks and AutoCAD. You will use these skills to create technical drawings that aid in the design and production process.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Design new products
• Assist with proof-of-concept testing before the prototype stage
• Analyze prototypes and finished products for functionality
• Review existing designs, supporting the enhancement or revision of products
• Create technical drawings using CAD software and outline product specifications
• Verify the accuracy of tooling design and work instructions
• Document the entire development and design process

Requirements and Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or a related field
• Master's degree a plus
• Experience with 3D design software, such as SolidWorks and AutoCAD
• Prior experience in product development from an engineering or manufacturing standpoint
• Excellent analytical skills and the ability to solve complex design issues
