TITLE: Capital Improvement Engineer - 1st Shift
DEPARTMENT: Maintenance

OCCUPATIONAL SUMMARY:
The Capital Improvement Engineer is responsible for owning the site-wide capital project framework and continuous improvement portfolio within a cGMP manufacturing environment. This role provides planning discipline, financial control, prioritization, and schedule management for capital projects across the site, ensuring that both minor and major projects are executed consistently and effectively. In addition, this role leads structured process improvement initiatives focused on bottleneck reduction, throughput improvement, and operational efficiency. The position operates primarily in a planning and coordination capacity, leading cross-functional teams through influence and structure rather than direct execution. Accountability for project outcomes, compliance alignment, and documentation readiness remains with this role.
Accountabilities
  • Own site capital framework including project intake, prioritization, financial tracking, and schedule
  • Ensure all capital projects progress throughout the calendar year, eliminate project backlog
  • Lead structured improvement initiatives that reduce bottlenecks, increase throughput, and improve operational efficiency through data and cross-functional collaboration
  • Maintain accountability for change control strategy, qualification, and documentation
  • Ensure accurate capital budgeting, forecasting, and cost control with clear communication of risks and potential variances
  • Provide routine visibility into capital and improvement project status and priorities

Responsibilities
  • Develop, maintain, and communicate the 3-5 year site capital plan including scope, budget, schedule, and status of all ongoing and future projects
  • Coordinate capital projects sequencing to balance operational risk and business priorities
  • Track capital expenditures against approved budgets and appropriately communicate deviations in a timely manner to relevant stakeholders
  • Define and develop project scope documents including, but not limited to, URS development, validation strategies, and turnover documentation
  • Create, standardize, and/or streamline project development, financial tracking, and project close-out documentation and methods
  • Lead cross-functional project teams to ensure all stakeholders are appropriately involved
  • Coordinate project execution activities through the Project Engineer, Maintenance, Facilities, Operations, and contractors
  • Maintain accountability for change control, qualification planning, and general quality readiness for all Capital projects
  • Own continuous process improvement initiatives focused on bottleneck reduction, throughput improvement, and operational efficiency
  • Identify, prioritize, and lead improvement projects in collaboration with Operations, Maintenance, Quality, IT, Supply Chain, Regulatory, and Finance
  • Use data, observation, operator input, and structured problem-solving to drive sustainable process improvements
  • Develop and maintain a process improvement tracking method with routine communication to site leadership
  • Perform other duties as required

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering preferred; related scientific degrees will be considered
  • 3+ yrs of Engineering experience preferred with cGMP experience prioritized
  • Exposure to manufacturing, operations, or regulated environments preferred
  • Familiarity with FDA, cGMP, and validation requirements preferred
