Job description

QLA is seeking a hybrid a Quality Engineer & Process Engineer to drive quality and manufacturing improvements. The Engineer will lead the improvement of product quality and process efficiency through data in the manufacturing environment. You will be responsible for root cause analyses up to defining process parameters and implementing process changes. You will work under the Director of Manufacturing while also closely working alongside the Quality Department in maintaining the Quality Management System (QMS).

Role Responsibilities

·        Quality Management System (QMS): Operate within QLA’s Quality Management System (ISO 9001), including the development, review, and standardization of detailed work instructions and forms.

·        Corrective Action: Work to resolve customer issues and manufacturing failures, implementing robust preventive measures to eliminate reoccurrences. Develop auditable methods to ensure compliance.

·        Process Optimization: Drive continuous improvement initiatives using Lean and Six Sigma tools to reduce scrap, lower operational costs, and increase process efficiency. Create and update detailed Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). Aid in creation of fixtures and tools to control quality and improve efficiency.

·        Statistical Analysis & Reporting: Utilize advanced statistical tools (JASP) and metrics to monitor process stability, justify capital expenditures (ROI), and report internal/external performance to management (KPI’s).

·        Advanced Measurement Systems: Specify and implement advanced measurement equipment and fixtures. Utilize Mitutoyo CMM and Keyence Optical Comparator to automate inspection processes. Implement validations like (Gage R&R) and training of staff on new inspection processes.

·        Auditing: Support the Quality Manager during audits for internal processes and host external notified bodies or customer agencies during formal quality audits.


·        New Product Development (NPD): Participate in design reviews to ensure quality requirements are met through the development of reliability plans, control plans, and FMEAs.


Qualifications & Skills

·       ISO 9001:2015 Experience – Knowledge of requirements, implementation, and audits for ISO or a comparable standard is required.

·       Engineering Background – 3-5 years of experience in quality engineering, manufacturing engineering or process engineering is required.

·       Hands-On Mechanical Skills – Experience in a manufacturing environment is required. Hands on experience is a plus.

·       Process Documentation – Skilled in writing and maintaining SOPs and process flow charts.

·       Technical Proficiency – Must be proficient in Excel, Word, and PowerPoint and reading a diverse range of blueprints.

·       Leadership Abilities – Experience managing projects and cross functional teams.
