Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings - carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.

Role Purpose

This role focuses on optimizing manufacturing systems by evaluating data trends, workflows, identifying bottlenecks, and facilitating solutions to close performance gaps. It involves developing operational roadmaps aligned with future capacity ramp plans, driving process improvements, and reducing performance losses across multiple manufacturing sites. The position requires collaboration with Operations and Engineering to enhance Process Control and Process Discipline, assessing organizational design for workflow optimization, and managing cost reduction initiatives. Additionally, the role serves as the operational lead for deploying new equipment and processes, ensuring proper documentation, training, and change management for all technology to manufacturing transitions.

Position is in the Division Engineering organization within Corning Optical Fiber and Cable (OFC) and is based in Wilmington, NC.

Key Responsibilities

   Define and deliver process excellence for required manufacturing sites , ensuring accurate and timely information and data flow through manufacturing and the value chain.
   Optimize workflows by identifying issues, resolving gaps, and eliminating bottlenecks through equipment planning.
   Monitor manufacturing improvements; escalate technical needs to engineering teams.
   Assess organizational design and recommend workforce optimization strategies.

Experiences/Education - Required

     Qualifications:

  •  Required Education
       B.S. in Engineering (Chemical, Mechanical, Electrical/Controls, Materials, or equivalent)

  • Required Experience and Skills
       5+ years in manufacturing setting. 
       2+ years of Engineering leadership and/or project management experience 
       Solid understanding of engineering principles and ability to solve manufacturing issues.
       2+ years of experience with data analysis tools; (e.g., Excel, Access, Power BI, or SQL).
       Comfortable working with teams across manufacturing, technology, R&D, operations, procurement, IT, and supply chain.
       Self-starter; takes full ownership; leads teams through challenges and obstacles.

    Preferred Skills and attributes
       Advanced degree in Engineering (Chemical, Mechanical, Electrical/Controls, Materials, or equivalent)
       Comfortable partnering with different functions (Technology, Engineering, Operations, IT, GSM, etc.).

The range for this position is $97,286.00 - $133,768.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education.
