Job description

School Monitor

Primary Purpose: To help maintain a safe, orderly, and positive school environment by monitoring hallways, common areas, restrooms, entrances, and outdoor areas during school hours. Serve as a visible, proactive presence to deter inappropriate behavior and ensure student compliance with campus rules.

Qualifications: High school diploma or GED (required) Experience working with school-age children or in a school environment (preferred) Strong interpersonal and communication skills Ability to remain calm and professional in high-pressure situations Bilingual (Spanish/English) preferred but not required

Major Responsibilities and Duties: Monitor hallways, restrooms, stairwells, cafeteria, and other common areas during class changes, lunches, and before/after school Ensure students are following campus rules and procedures; redirect and report inappropriate behavior Escort students to and from administrative offices when needed Check hall passes and question students who are out of class during instructional time Report incidents, safety concerns, or student behavior issues to administrators promptly Assist with arrival and dismissal supervision, including bus and car rider areas Support safety drills and emergency protocols by guiding students to designated areas Build positive relationships with students and serve as a supportive presence on campus Maintain confidentiality regarding student and staff information Perform other duties as assigned by campus administration

Skills and Abilities: Assertiveness and confidence when enforcing rules Ability to communicate respectfully with students, staff, and parents Strong observation skills and attention to detail Dependable, punctual, and able to work independently Ability to de-escalate conflicts and support positive student behavior

Working Conditions: Frequent standing, walking, and monitoring throughout the school campus May involve working outdoors in varying weather conditions Occasional lifting of items up to 25 lbs. Salary is commensurate with experience Minimum Salary $20,959 Please note that this role requires in-person attendance and is not eligible for remote work. Sheldon ISD will accept applications for this position through January 18, 2025. After this date, applications will continue to be accepted in the event that a suitable candidate is not identified. If no viable candidate is selected from the initial applicant pool, applications submitted after January 18th will be reviewed in five day intervals until a candidate is recommended for hire.
