Job Description
The Planning Analyst plays an integral role in assisting the Planning and System Development team in analyzing and quantifying strategic initiatives. The analyst will collaborate closely with the other AHS staff by providing objective data, analysis, and concrete and actionable business planning materials that enable leadership to surface issues, develop opportunities, make informed decisions, and achieve strategic goals. The analyst supports organizational and clinical service line performance and corporate strategy through the development of environmental assessments and accompanying strategic analyses. Monitors healthcare trends and proactively identifies and proposes strategy refinements as a result of market conditions. This position provides support for corporate initiatives including volume and capacity projections and assessments of other providers.
Responsibilities & Qualifications:
  • Participates in assessments of market position, developments, trends, demographics, strategic options in collaboration with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Scans the competitive and industry landscape for developments related to AHS' ability to achieve its strategic goals and provide insights.
  • Supports growth initiatives, business planning, and market profiling for all development activities, affiliate markets, and emerging markets.
  • Collects and monitors complex financial, economic, and operational analysis based on national, state, regional and local data.
  • Supports strategic analytics planning on service lines in close collaboration with the Planning and System Development staff, supports service line leaders as needed and cultivates and maintains relationships with operations and finance staff.
  • Supports research to identify the scope of supply and demand for a service line, and supports the service line development work plan, identifying information and data needs.
  • Demonstrates proficient understanding of department's data analysis tools and software; creates targeted reports and creates demand forecasts and proposes strategic recommendations to director based on qualitative and quantitative analyses.
  • Develops comprehensive market overviews and analyses using inpatient state data sets and organizational data to identify trends, developments, and other key conclusions.
  • Using claims data files and other sources, creates reports on physician market activity and their connections for service line planning, strategic analyses, and business development.
  • Using GIS software to creates maps to help visually display data points and key information, including but not limited to dot density maps, heat maps, and healthcare locations.
  • Ability to communicate complex information clearly, concisely, and accurately in both written and oral form
  • Ability to work collaboratively with inter-departmental staff, physicians and/or senior leadership at a professional level
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications
Qualifications
  • Master's degree in Healthcare Administration, Public Health, Business Administration or related field or bachelor's plus equivalent experience.
  • Three to five years or more of progressive experience in the strategic planning, business development, administration, and operations management preferred
  • Demonstrates the ability to investigate and apply new technology developments in the field of data modeling.
  • Experience in business planning, data analysis and modeling.
  • Utilizes effective project planning techniques to break down basic and occasionally moderately complex projects into tasks and ensure deadlines are kept.
  • Experience with manipulating and analyzing large data sets including state discharge data, demographic data, mapping software, inpatient and outpatient calculators/forecasters, pivot tables, Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

Knowledge, Education and Skills Preferred
  • Experience with performing complex analyses for strategic market research preferred.
  • Experience and/or ability to learn multiple parallel processing/programming and software/programming languages such as SQL, SAS, and interactive data visualization products focused on business intelligence.
