Primary Function:
In this Payroll Manager role, you will oversee and manage the full-cycle payroll function for Dashiell's multi-state operations. This role is responsible for accurate and timely payroll processing, payroll tax compliance, regulatory reporting, internal controls, and audit readiness. The Payroll Manager ensures payroll is processed in-house in compliance with federal, state, and local regulations while maintaining strong internal controls and confidentiality standards. This position partners closely with HR, Finance, Accounting, and Operations to ensure payroll accuracy, reporting integrity, and regulatory compliance. Reporting directly to the Director of Accounting. This role will be located at 12031 Kurland Drive, Houston, Texas 77034.

Duties & Responsibilities
Employee may be called upon to perform any or all of the following functions:

  • Oversee full-cycle, in-house payroll processing for exempt and non-exempt employees across multiple states.
  • Ensure accurate calculation of wages, overtime, bonuses, deductions, garnishments, and benefits.
  • Manage and file federal, state, and local payroll tax filings and ensure timely payment of all payroll tax liabilities.
  • Reconcile payroll tax accounts and resolve discrepancies with tax authorities as needed.
  • Oversee quarterly and annual filings including Forms 941, 940, W-2, state unemployment reports, and related compliance documents.
  • Ensure compliance with wage and hour laws, including multi-state regulations.
  • Maintain and strengthen payroll internal controls and documentation processes.
  • Partner with Accounting to reconcile payroll to the general ledger and support month-end and year-end close activities.
  • Support internal and external audits related to payroll and tax compliance.
  • Oversee payroll system administration, including updates, testing, and process improvements.
  • Supervise and develop payroll staff, if applicable.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvement and increased efficiency within payroll operations.
  • Maintain confidentiality of employee payroll information.
  • Perform special projects and complete other duties as assigned or requested.

Minimum Qualifications / Experience
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field preferred.

  • Minimum 8 years of progressive payroll experience required.
  • CPP (Certified Payroll Professional) certification preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience managing full-cycle, in-house payroll processing and payroll tax filings required.
  • Strong experience with multi-state payroll and tax compliance.
  • Proven experience preparing and filing federal, state, and local payroll tax returns.
  • Strong understanding of wage and hour laws and payroll regulations.
  • Experience reconciling payroll to general ledger accounts.
  • Familiarity with payroll systems and ERP platforms.
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
  • High level of discretion and confidentiality.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong sense of accountability and ownership.
Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to sit for extended periods during computer-based work.
  • Ability to stand and walk intermittently throughout the workday.
  • Occasional lifting of up to 20 pounds.
  • Occasional travel to other offices or meeting locations.

Environmental Conditions

  • Primarily climate-controlled office environment.
  • Occasional exposure to field or industrial environments during site visits.
