Job description

BW Industrial Construction is seeking a parttime Payroll Accountant (hybrid-Houston office) to manage payroll, payroll tax compliance, and cost accounting for our growing industrial construction operations. This role supports both field and office teams, ensures accurate and timely payroll, and provides cost analysis and financial reporting that directly support project and leadership decisionmaking. This is a hybrid role based in Houston, with inoffice collaboration 13 days per week.


Key Responsibilities

  • Process biweekly payroll for hourly and salaried employees
  • Review timecards, job costing allocations, per diem, travel pay, and overtime
  • Maintain and reconcile deductions, garnishments, and direct deposits
  • Enter, review, and reconcile payroll data in QuickBooks Online
  • Manage multistate payroll tax setup, filings, payments, and compliance
  • Prepare payroll journal entries and reconcile payrollrelated GL accounts
  • Work with HR to maintain PTO and sick leave accruals
  • Support audits (workers comp, unemployment, financial)
  • Assist with monthend and yearend close, including W2 and 1099 preparation
  • Provide labor cost, job cost, and payroll reporting to leadership
  • Conduct cost analysis to support project profitability and operational decisionmaking
  • Partner with leadership on tax planning considerations related to payroll, labor allocation, and multistate operations
  • Identify opportunities to improve payroll processes, accuracy, and compliance
  • Work a part-time hybrid schedule, with inoffice presence 12 days per week for collaboration and financial reviews

Required Qualifications

  • 5+ years of payroll experience, including multistate payroll and payroll tax
  • 2+ years of experience in an industrial construction company (preferred: fieldheavy or jobcosting environments)
  • Handson experience with QuickBooks Online
  • Strong Excel skills (pivot tables, VLOOKUPs, reconciliations)
  • Demonstrated experience with job costing, labor allocation, and cost analysis
  • High attention to detail, accuracy, and deadline management


Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with BambooHR, or other HRIS systems
  • Certified payroll, prevailing wage, or DavisBacon experience
  • Accounting coursework or degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business
  • Experience supporting tax planning or coordinating with external tax advisors
