As of Jul 23, 2026, the average yearly pay for part time defense acquisition in the United States is $78,954.00, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $54,500.00 and $100,000.00 per year, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What are the typical responsibilities and challenges faced by someone in a part-time defense acquisition role?

In a part-time defense acquisition role, you can expect to assist with contract management, procurement documentation, and compliance with federal acquisition regulations while working a reduced schedule. One common challenge is staying up-to-date on changing defense policies and ensuring deliverables meet strict timelines despite limited hours. You'll likely collaborate closely with full-time acquisition professionals, program managers, and external vendors to support project goals. Balancing workload and maintaining clear communication are essential to ensure your contributions remain impactful within the part-time structure.

What is a Part Time Defense Acquisition professional?

A Part Time Defense Acquisition professional is someone who works on a part-time basis to manage, procure, or oversee the purchasing of goods and services for defense-related projects or agencies. Their responsibilities may include evaluating suppliers, negotiating contracts, ensuring regulatory compliance, and coordinating with various stakeholders to support defense missions. Part-time roles in this field are ideal for those seeking flexible hours while still contributing to national security objectives. These professionals typically have backgrounds in procurement, logistics, or contract management and are familiar with government acquisition processes.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Part Time Defense Acquisition professional, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Part Time Defense Acquisition professional, you need a solid understanding of procurement processes, contract management, and federal acquisition regulations, often supported by relevant education or experience in defense or government contracting. Familiarity with acquisition systems such as the Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR), Defense Acquisition System (DAS), and certifications like DAWIA are typically required. Strong analytical thinking, attention to detail, and clear communication skills help in negotiating contracts and collaborating with stakeholders.
