Job description

Job Title: Outside Sales Representative

Report To: Business Development Manager.

Placement Type: Permanent

Location: Montreal, QC

Work Location: Hybrid.

Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m

Our client, a mid-sized specialty steel distributor, is seeking an Outside Sales Representative for their Quebec territory. They supply stainless and alloy fluid-handling products, including pipe, tube, fittings, flanges, valves, and instrumentation, with service centres across Canada. This opportunity is a strong fit for a bilingual outside sales professional who wants an established customer base rather than a cold start, and a clear path into regional leadership.

Position Overview:

● Business development for the Quebec territory, with a path into regional leadership as the current manager retires.

● The territory is primarily Quebec, with some Ontario around Brockville and Eastport, and a couple of trips a year to the Maritimes.

● The customer base is already substantial, so this is focused on relationship-building rather than pure outbound.

Responsibilities:

● Build and strengthen relationships across an established customer base.

● Uncover the decision makers inside each account and make sure accounts are properly saturated.

● Gather intelligence on what the company is doing well, what it is missing, and where it is falling short.

● Follow up on outstanding quotes and pursue new ones.

● Find out what work is coming up within the main accounts.

● Prospect for new business and follow leads using calls, emails, LinkedIn and project platforms.

● Search out new projects across Quebec, particularly refineries, mechanical work and bridge projects.

● Contact mechanical contractors bidding on jobs to explore potential partnerships.

● Make first contact with new customers arriving through general inquiries.

● Plan for customer visits and coordinate closely with the inside sales team.

● Report daily customer meetings in the CRM.

Must Have Qualifications:

● 5+ years of outside sales experience.

● Fully bilingual in English and French, written and spoken, with excellent communication skills.

● Working product knowledge of pipe, fittings, flanges, valves and instrumentation.

● An understanding of the Quebec market and how distribution works.

● Comfortable travelling roughly one week a month and spending significant time on the road.

● A clean driving record.

Like To Have Qualifications:

● Experience with a competing distributor of pipe, valves and fittings.

● Inside sales experience, which would be considered if the outside sales pool proves limited.

● Experience selling into refineries, mechanical contractors, OEMs, fabrication shops and end users.

Why You Should Work Here:

● Family-owned business.

● Opportunity to get into a leadership role, based on performance.

● A long-tenured team and a great work environment.

● An established customer base, so the work is relationship building rather than cold calling from nothing.

● Car allowance and gas card, company phone, and free on-site parking.

● Parking: Free on site.

● Cell: Company-provided.
