Summary:

The Marketing Operations Manager, Data Governance & Compliance is responsible for ensuring the integrity, quality, security, and compliant use of marketing data across systems and processes. This role establishes governance frameworks, enforces data standards, and partners across Marketing, Sales, Legal, and IT to ensure data is accurate, actionable, and aligned with regulatory requirements.

This individual plays a critical role in enabling effective marketing execution, protecting customer data, and improving decision-making through high-quality data.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Data Governance & Strategy

  • Define and maintain marketing data governance frameworks, policies, and standards.
  • Establish clear ownership and stewardship of key data objects (e.g., leads, contacts, accounts).
  • Create and document data definitions, taxonomies, and naming conventions.
  • Partner with RevOps, Sales Ops, and IT to align data governance and integrations across systems.

Data Quality Management

  • Develop and monitor data quality KPIs (completeness, accuracy, consistency, duplication).
  • Implement processes for data cleansing, enrichment, and deduplication.
  • Manage tools and vendors for validation, enrichment, and hygiene.
  • Conduct regular audits of CRM and marketing automation data.

Compliance & Privacy

  • Ensure adherence to global data privacy regulations (e.g., GDPR, CAN-SPAM Act, CCPA).
  • Partner with Legal and Security teams to operationalize consent management and data usage policies.
  • Build and Oversee processes for opt-in/opt-out management, preference center and suppression lists.
  • Support audit readiness and respond to compliance-related inquiries.

Process & Technology Optimization

  • Design and enforce standardized processes for data entry, segmentation, and campaign execution.
  • Evaluate and manage tools related to data quality (e.g., validation, enrichment, deduplication platforms).
  • Partner with Marketing Automation and CRM teams (e.g., Salesforce, Marketo) to ensure proper data flow and integration.
  • Identify automation opportunities to improve data accuracy and efficiency.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Act as the primary liaison between Marketing, Sales, IT, Legal, and Compliance teams on data-related initiatives.
  • Educate stakeholders on data governance best practices and compliance requirements.
  • Support teams with lists and segmentation guidance and data readiness.

Reporting & Insights

  • Build dashboards to track data health and governance metrics.
  • Provide regular reporting on data quality trends and risks.
  • Recommend improvements based on data analysis and business needs.

Ideal Experience, Education, and Training

  • 4-8 years of experience in Marketing Operations, RevOps, or Data Governance.
  • Hands-on experience with CRM and marketing automation platforms (e.g., Salesforce, Marketo, HubSpot).
  • Strong understanding of data governance principles and lifecycle management.
  • Familiarity with marketing compliance and privacy regulations.
  • Experience with data quality tools (validation, enrichment, deduplication).
  • Analytical mindset with experience in reporting and dashboards.
  • Experience implementing data governance frameworks at scale.
  • Knowledge of consent management platforms and preference centers.
  • SQL or data querying experience.
  • Certifications in data privacy or governance (e.g., CIPP, CDMP).
