Citizens Memorial Hospital (CMH) is recruiting current Nursing Students for our next Nurse Apprenticeship! CMH is made up of 34 primary and specialty clinics, 6 Long-Term Care facilities and 1 residential care facility. About the area: Located in the heart of the Ozarks, our main campus in Bolivar has a hometown feel and affordable housing options of rentals or apartments. About the Department:Our Nurse Apprenticeship allows nursing students the amazing opportunity to work and gain hands-on experience in a variety of areas that CMH has to offer (LTC, Hospital, Home Care/Hospice, and Clinics). Nurse Apprentices are CMH employees and will be compensated for their clinical time as they work to complete their nursing program, in exchange for a 1 year work commitment upon successful graduation!
A typical day includes: Working under the direct supervision of an RN or LPN. Assisting with patient care duties and be able to perform specific nursing skills as outlined below, as well as having successfully completed the skills checkoff portion of their school curriculum. Once deemed competent through additional demonstration of skill by CMH employed RN/LPN, may independently perform.:
  • Assisting with patient assessment by collecting patient data
  • Assisting with or performing patient activities of daily living
  • Performs linen changes as required and per routine
  • Responding promptly to patient/staff requests for assistance
  • Assisting with labeling/transport of specimens
  • Assuring patient comfort measures are met by performing rounds and anticipating needs
  • Documenting in patient record in a timely, accurate and concise manner
  • Notifies licensed personnel promptly of any change in patient status or condition
  • Performing admit/discharge procedures per routine in accurate and timely manner
  • Assisting with the management of patient's personal belongings

As a Nurse Apprentice, you will have the opportunity to acquire a number of skills:
  • IVs: insertion and removal
  • Port access: insertion and removal
  • Urinary Catheter: maintenance, insertion and removal
  • Gastric Tubes: maintenance, irrigation, administration of feeding, removal
  • Dressing changes: assist RN/LPN, independently perform basic dressing changes to include wet to dry and clean dressing (no medication administration) removal of sutures, staples and surgical drains
  • Hygiene and skill care: implements and participates in methods to prevent skin breakdown
  • Tracheostomy/Vent care: maintenance, to include suctioning, inner cannula change (trach only) and securement device change
  • Blood glucose monitoring
  • Specimen collection: nasal, NP and throat swabs, blood, urine, stool
  • Second verifier for Blood Products
  • In clinic setting: rooming, medication reconciliation, EKG, ear lavage, wound care and assisting with procedures as directed.

Requirements
  • Work 12 hours per month (not to include clinical time) can be separated into 4, 6 or 12 hour blocks
  • Remain current on BLS certification
  • Complete employee quarterly Healthstream assignments
  • Complete SAFE training within 1 year

  • PRN (Per Requested Need).
  • Nights, Evenings, Days, Weekends or Rotating.
