Job description

QUALIFICATIONS: This position requires knowledge of proper office methods, techniques and procedures, word processing techniques, proper telephone techniques, command of the English language along with attention to detail, as well as interpret orally and translate written material in Spanish as required.

Must have the skill to learn the operations, procedures, policies and requirements of assigned operational units and apply them with good judgment; interpret and successfully apply District rules and policies while independently carrying out a variety of technical procedures.

Applicant must possess the ability to type 45 NET WPM, take non verbatim notes or minutes and transcribe with speed and accuracy; perform mathematical calculations accurately; maintain efficient record keeping and filing systems; prepare routine reports; coordinate activities and details and maintain a schedule of events; analyze situations and take appropriate action regarding routine procedural matters without immediate supervision; communicate effectively and tactfully in oral and written forms; understand and carry out oral and written instructions; establish and maintain effective work relationships with those contacted in the course of work.

Requires two years of broad and varied experience in typing and clerical work, along with the ability to handle busy phones and work with more than one task simultaneously.

Must pass the District bilingual certification test in Oral, Reading and Writing Proficiency in Spanish.

A RECENT (IN-PERSON) FIVE-MINUTE TYPING CERTIFICATE MUST ACCOMPANY APPLICATION TO BE SUCCESSFUL.  Certificates must be less than two years old and cannot be completed through an online website.  Kern High School District employees who currently work in a position requiring the same or higher minimum typing speed do not need to submit a typing certificate.

A CRIMINAL HISTORY CHECK WILL BE REQUIRED OF THE SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE PRIOR TO EMPLOYMENT.

DUTIES OF POSITION: Under supervision, performs a variety of complex and responsible secretarial duties in support of the day-to-day operations within the operational unit. This job class performs moderately complex and responsible functions at a journey level and requires the successful accomplishment of a variety of tasks and details.

STARTING SALARY:               $3,782.94 (monthly)

NUMBER OF MONTHS:         10 (to begin as soon as possible)

NUMBER OF HOURS:            8 (daily working hours 7:30 a.m. to 4:15 p.m.)
