Position Summary
ย 

At Stony Brook Medicine, a Clinical Laboratory Technologist is a valuable member of our team, who provides clinical services to our patient population.ย  ย Qualified candidates will demonstrate superior patient care and possess outstanding communication skills while adhering to our high standard of excellence.

Duties of a Clinical Laboratory Technologist may include but are not limited to the following:

  • Has line responsibility for preparation (assessing specimen acceptability) and testing (routine and STAT) of tissue samples for human histocompatibility testing procedures for solid organ or hematopoietic stem cell transplantation. ย 
  • Testing includes HLA typing by serological and molecular methods (SSP & SSO-Luminex), serum HLA antibody detection (screen ID and SA by Luminex) and donor-recipient crossmatch (AHG-CDC) testing.ย  Will report any problems pertaining to this testing to the attention of the lead tech, lab supervisor and or lab director.
  • Required to follow all quality control/assurance and safety protocols including reagent preparation, equipment maintenance, required documentation, attendance at laboratory recertification class and continuing education requirements (12 credit hours/annually).
  • Required to support 24/7 coverage of lab services to organ transplant programs.
  • Assists in the setting up of equipment and procedures, modifications and update of existing procedures and development of overall departmental procedure manuals.
  • Assists in the development and implementation of a routine preventative maintenance program for equipment in the clinical laboratories.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required:ย 
SL-1: NYS licensure as a Clinical Laboratory Technologist or documented eligibility including provisional/limited permit
eligibility with 0-2 years of demonstrated relevant experience.
SL-2: NYS licensure as a Clinical Laboratory Technologist or documented eligibility including provisional/limited permit
eligibility with 3-5 years of demonstrated relevant experience.
SL-3: NYS licensure as a Clinical Laboratory Technologist or documented eligibility, including provisional/limited permit
eligibility with a minimum 6 years demonstrated relevant experience.

Preferred:ย ย Experience in molecular tissue typing and molecular engraftment analysis.ย ย Certification as a Histocompatibility Technologist by the American Board for Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics, CHT (ABHI) and or the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP) as a Medical Laboratory Scientist, MLS (ASCP).ย ย Documentation of histocompatibility work experience in an ASHI/CAP accredited laboratory performing high-complexity testing under CLIA '88 Regulations as currently modified. ย ย

Anticipated Pay Range:

The salary range (or hiring range) for this position is $89,142 - $113,055 / year.

The above salary range represents SBUH's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.ย  The specific salary offer will be based on the candidate's validated years of comparable experience.ย  Any efforts to inflate or misrepresent experience are grounds for disqualification from the application process or termination of employment if hired.

Some positions offer annual supplemental pay such as:

  • Location pay for UUP, CSEA & PEF full-time positions ($4000)

  • Night shift differential ($15,000), evening shift differential ($10,000)

  • Inconvenience pay/supplemental shift differential. ($575)
