Position Overview:

This position provides highlevel administrative and clerical support to the Director and professional staff. The role requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to communicate effectively with a diverse range of individuals, including those who are deaf or hard of hearing.

Illinois Department of Deaf and Hard of Hearing Commission offers a robust benefit package including:

Essential Functions
  • Serves as Secretary to the Director and professional staff. 
  • Reviews invoices for BEI Raters, Interpreters, Commissioners, and Licensure Board invoices. 
  • Performs a variety of complex, specialized clerical support functions. 
  • Serves as receptionist in the agency's executive office. 
  • Identifies needs for office supplies. 
  • Through sign language, communicates with those who are deaf and hard of hearing and others. Including clients, government officials, staff, and others. 
  • Performs other duties as required and assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above. 
Minimum Qualifications
  • Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to completion of high school and two years of office experience. 
  • Requires ability to keyboard accurately at 35 words per minute. 
  • In addition to having a written and spoken knowledge of the English language, candidates are required to sign American Sign Language at a colloquial skill level in carrying out position duties in conjunction with non-English speaking individuals. 
Conditions of Employment
  • Requires a valid drivers license and the ability to travel, including overnight stays. 
  • Requires the ability to work outside normal hours as operational needs require.
