Job Summary:

You create amazing experiences for our library patrons. You work cooperatively and effectively with others to deliver excellent service, resolve problems, and make decisions that enhance organizational effectiveness. You understand customer needs and enjoy connecting them with the right library materials. You engage well with others and are passionate about providing an exemplary customer experience. You share your passion for library services and enjoy talking about and offering meaningful recommendations of the latest books, movies, and music.


Duties and Responsibilities:

  • This position is guaranteed 24 hours per week.
  • Plan and run library programs for adults.
  • Continually looking for opportunities to have library patrons feel welcome and connected to library materials and services.
  • Assist with circulation activities including patron orientation, creating displays, shelving, etc.
  • Provide information regarding programs, events, conference rooms, etc.
  • Address or escalates patron conduct or safety issues to appropriate management
  • Supports other departments as needed.
  • Know and understand the American Library Associationโ€™s Library Bill of Rights, Freedom to Read Statement and Freedom to View Statement, recognizing that freedom of access is a fundamental tenet of a public library.
  • Follow all legal and policy requirements related to patron privacy and custodianship of patron records.
  • Perform other activities as assigned.


Education and Experience:

  • H.S. Diploma or GED required,
  • 2 - 3 year library experience preferred
  • 2 - 3 years customer service experience preferred
  • Experience with Polaris preferred
  • Experience with Canva preferred
  • Experience with digital resources preferred (Libby, Kanapy, etc.)


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Excellent listening and communication abilities.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Strong technology skills
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office (Words, Excel, etc.)
  • Ability to work a schedule which will include weekend and evening work.


Work Environment:

  • Fast paced public library
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate as the employee works in a library setting, using telephone and computer


Physical Demands:

  • Ability to move from place to place within the location; lift, push/pull, hold/carry of items weighing up to (25) pounds and occasional up to (35) pounds such as files, books, stacks of paper, and other materials.
  • The person in this position frequently communicates via telephone
