What is a midstream?

A Midstream job refers to roles in the midstream sector of the oil and gas industry, which involves the transportation, storage, and processing of hydrocarbons. This includes pipeline operations, terminal management, and logistics to ensure crude oil, natural gas, and refined products move efficiently from production sites to refineries or distribution centers. Midstream jobs require expertise in safety, regulatory compliance, and infrastructure maintenance. These roles are critical in maintaining the energy supply chain and optimizing the movement of resources.

What are the typical daily responsibilities of a midstream professional?

Midstream professionals are primarily responsible for overseeing the transportation, storage, and initial processing of oil, natural gas, or other resources through pipelines and facilities. Their typical day might include monitoring system performance, troubleshooting equipment issues, coordinating with upstream and downstream partners, and ensuring adherence to safety and environmental standards. They often work in both field and control room settings and must document activities and incidents for regulatory compliance. This role offers a dynamic work environment where proactive decision-making and effective teamwork are valued.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the midstream position, and why are they important?

To thrive in a Midstream role, you need a solid understanding of pipeline operations, safety regulations, and fluid transport logistics, often supported by a degree in engineering or related technical field. Familiarity with SCADA systems, DOT regulations, and relevant certifications such as OSHA or HAZWOPER is typically required. Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and effective communication are essential for collaborating with multidisciplinary teams and responding to unexpected issues. These skills ensure safe, efficient movement of resources and help maintain regulatory compliance in a complex and dynamic industry.

Job description

Company Information

QB Energy is on a clear path to becoming one of the top natural gas producers in the country, backed by Quantum Energy Partners, one of the top private equity firms in energy, with a 20-year drilling inventory and integrated upstream and midstream operations built to compete with the best gas projects in North America. We create long-term value through continuous improvement and bold innovation โ€” and we're looking for entrepreneurial people who want to help build that future, not just work in it.

Operating across roughly 400,000 net acres in the Piceance Basin of Western Colorado, we're proving that aggressive growth and real environmental stewardship go hand in hand. Join a team that takes as much pride in how we build this company as in what we produce.

Job Summary

The Vice President of Midstream & Regulatory Affairs leads midstream operations, facilities engineering, and regulatory compliance across the Piceance Basin, ensuring safe, reliable, compliant infrastructure while partnering with the COO on capacity, cost, and permitting outcomes.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Midstream Operations & Financial Management: Oversee gathering, compression, and processing operations, capacity planning, and capital projects, plus related budgets, agreements, and land access matters.
  • Facilities Engineering & Construction: Oversee facility design, construction, and capital project execution, ensuring reliability, safety, and code compliance.
  • Regulatory Compliance & Government Affairs: Serve as primary contact with ECMC, BLM, and other agencies on permitting and compliance matters.
  • Coordination and Collaboration: Partner with production, land, and EHS teams, and represent the company in industry and community engagements.
Supervisor Duties
  • Set goals, strategies, and plans for the midstream, facilities, and regulatory team, and lead recruitment, interviews, and hiring decisions.
QualificationsEducation
  • A minimum of a B.S. in petroleum, mechanical, chemical, or civil engineering
Specialized knowledge
  • Knowledge of midstream operations, facility engineering, ECMC/BLM regulations, and core industry software (WellView, ProdView, IHS, GIS).
Skills & Abilities
  • Collaborative self-starter with exceptional communication skills, demonstrated leadership and integrity, and flexibility for travel and irregular hours.
Experience
  • 15+ years in midstream, facilities, or production operations, including 7+ years leading teams in this space.
Compensation

The base compensation for this role in this location is targeted between $250,000 and $325,000 annually. Final offer amounts are determined by multiple factors, including candidate experience and expertise, and may vary from the range listed above.

Benefits and Perks

As a QB Energy employee, you'll receive a comprehensive benefits package, including medical, dental, and vision coverage (lowest-tier medical premiums covered 100% for employees and dependents), company-paid life, AD&D, and long-term disability insurance, a 401(k) with a 100% match up to 6% of compensation, paid time off and holidays, gym membership reimbursement, an onsite gym, cellphone reimbursement, and paid parking or an RTD pass

Additional Information

This posting does not list every duty or responsibility of the role, and QB Energy may adjust responsibilities at any time. QB Energy is an equal-opportunity employer and does not discriminate based on race, color, religion, national origin, age, sex, marital status, ancestry, disability, genetic information, veteran status, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, or other legally protected status.
