POSITION SUMMARY
The Light Equipment Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of a skid steer and forklift in support of Jones Power's pipe storage, staging, and yard operations in Carlsbad, NM. This role plays a critical part in maintaining the flow and organization of materials on-site, ensuring projects stay on schedule and meet our highest safety standards.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Operate skid steer and forklift safely in yard, storage, and staging environments
  • Assist with offloading, racking, and organizing pipe and materials per project specifications
  • Support pipe stringing, loadout, and right-of-way (ROW) operations as directed
  • Conduct pre-shift equipment inspections and report any mechanical issues to supervision
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and hazard-free work area at all times
  • Follow all site-specific safety plans, OSHA regulations, and Jones Power safety protocols
  • Coordinate with supervisors, operators, and spotters to ensure safe material handling
  • Assist with general yard maintenance and reclamation activities as needed
  • Complete daily logs, inspection records, and other required documentation accurately

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Minimum 1 year of verified skid steer and forklift operating experience
  • Valid forklift operator certification (or ability to obtain upon hire)
  • Demonstrated knowledge of safe load handling, rigging, and spotting procedures
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and physically demanding environments
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety
  • Reliable transportation to the Carlsbad, NM work site
  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Experience in pipeline construction, oil and gas, or midstream logistics
  • Familiarity with pipe storage yard operations and racking procedures
  • OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification
  • Experience operating additional light equipment (telehandler, man lift, etc.)

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs regularly
  • Prolonged periods of sitting in equipment cabs and standing on uneven terrain
  • Exposure to outdoor elements including heat, cold, dust, and noise
  • Ability to climb, bend, stoop, and kneel as required by field conditions
