Midstream jobs require expertise in safety, regulatory compliance, and infrastructure maintenance. These roles are critical in maintaining the energy supply chain and optimizing the movement of resources.

What are the typical daily responsibilities of a midstream professional?

Midstream professionals are primarily responsible for overseeing the transportation, storage, and initial processing of oil, natural gas, or other resources through pipelines and facilities. Their typical day might include monitoring system performance, troubleshooting equipment issues, coordinating with upstream and downstream partners, and ensuring adherence to safety and environmental standards. They often work in both field and control room settings and must document activities and incidents for regulatory compliance. This role offers a dynamic work environment where proactive decision-making and effective teamwork are valued.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the midstream position, and why are they important?

This role covers equipment including gas compressors, reciprocating compressors, pumps, turbines, electric motors, drivers, and associated auxiliary systems across Midstream facilities.

The position partners closely with Operations, Maintenance, Reliability, Technical Services, and Capital Projects to support the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of existing facilities while also guiding the design, specification, installation, startup, and optimization of new and modified equipment. • Support Midstream operations by troubleshooting rotating equipment issues at existing facilities and developing practical, data-driven recommendations to improve safety, reliability, performance, and maintainability.
  • Support capital and maintenance projects involving gas compression, power generation, pumps, and related rotating equipment systems from early concept through design, construction, commissioning, startup, and post-startup optimization.
  • Review and approve rotating equipment design packages, equipment specifications, vendor drawings, technical bid evaluations, and installation plans to ensure alignment with company requirements and applicable industry codes and standards.
  • Develop, maintain, and improve internal engineering standards, specifications, procedures, and best practices related to rotating equipment in Midstream applications.
  • Partner with field operations, maintenance, and reliability teams to assess asset condition, failure modes, criticality, and recurring equipment issues.
  • Lead or support root cause failure analyses for rotating equipment failures and recommend corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
  • Provide engineering input for equipment repairs, upgrades, rerates, overhauls, replacements, and system improvements for existing facilities.
  • Support equipment selection and technical evaluation for compressors, pumps, turbines, motors, and supporting systems used in facility expansions, debottlenecks, modernization efforts, and power generation projects.
  • Champion reliable operation, maintenance, condition monitoring, and installation practices for critical rotating equipment.
  • Support development of procurement and maintenance strategies, inspection plans, operating envelopes, and condition-based reliability improvement programs for critical assets.
  • Participate in incident reviews, risk assessments, design reviews, HAZOPs, and other technical evaluations related to rotating equipment scope.
  • Work with internal stakeholders and external suppliers, OEMs, EPCs, and engineering contractors to ensure quality technical execution and consistent application of Midstream standards.
  • Identify emerging technologies, equipment improvements, and industry practices that can enhance operational reliability, efficiency, and lifecycle cost performance.
  • Provide coaching, training, knowledge sharing, and technical guidance to engineers, technicians, and operations personnel across the Midstream organization.
  • Represent engineering and reliability interests in cross-functional initiatives and provide technical input to broader organizational improvement efforts.

What You'll Bring - Required

  • Legally authorized to work in the job posting country
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or other related engineering discipline
  • 12 or more years of engineering, reliability, maintenance, or project experience supporting rotating equipment in gas compression, midstream, oil and gas, petrochemical, refining, power generation, or related industrial environments
  • Demonstrated experience with rotating equipment such as gas compressors, reciprocating compressors, pumps, turbines, electric motors, and associated auxiliary systems
  • Experience supporting engineering design, equipment specification, and project execution for rotating equipment installations or modifications
  • Working knowledge of applicable industry codes, standards, and recommended practices related to rotating equipment
  • Experience with maintenance and reliability practices, including equipment condition monitoring, performance evaluation, and failure analysis
  • Ability to travel as business needs require and work in both office and field environments up to 25%

What Makes You Stand Out - Preferred

  • 15 or more years of experience supporting rotating equipment in Midstream or gas compression applications
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills related to equipment performance, reliability, and operability in existing facilities
  • Deep technical expertise in compressor stations, gas processing facilities, pumps, and other Midstream assets
  • Experience with gas turbine-driven and motor-driven compression systems
  • Experience with power generation systems and projects supporting Midstream facilities
  • Experience developing or administering company engineering standards, specifications, and maintenance practices
  • Experience leading root cause failure analysis and reliability improvement initiatives for critical rotating equipment
  • Familiarity with vibration analysis, condition monitoring, predictive maintenance, and performance testing practices
  • Experience working with EPCs, OEMs, and third-party engineering service providers
