POSITION OVERVIEW:
This position is located within the State Fuel Oil Laboratory of the GDA Laboratory Division, located in Tifton, Georgia.

1.      The Fuel Oil Laboratory is responsible for testing samples of motor, aviation, and renewable fuels sold in Georgia for purity, performance, octane rating, and other quality standards.

2.      Kerosene and antifreeze are analyzed for product safety and performance requirements.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Under general supervision, collects and organizes data and conducts analyses; provides technical assistance to staff; monitors and analyzes databases.

Duties include, but are not limited to the following:

        Performs receiving, logging, and visual inspection, and prepares samples to be processed.

        Performs analysis of gasoline, kerosene, diesel fuel, jet fuels, motor oils, diesel exhaust fluids, and all other petroleum-related products using methodologies established by ASTM.

        Collects and organizes lab testing data.

        Prepares and submits recurring and on-demand reports within established timeframes.

        Enters laboratory test data into the laboratory information system.

        Inspects laboratory facility and equipment for compliance and specifications.

        Provides technical assistance to management and fuel inspectors.

        Monitors and analyzes databases (petroleum products and antifreeze).

        Maintains inventory supply of chemicals and daily consumables.

Other duties as assigned.

Physical Demands:

        Constant standing/walking

        Lift 25-pound fuel samples and sample containers

        May exposure to petroleum vapors

        Exposure to different temperature environments

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in a physical or natural science from an accredited college or university.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

1.      Bachelor's degree in physical or natural science from an accredited college or university, which included at least one course in mathematics, statistics, research methods, or a related field.

2.      Knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.), and PC based software is preferred.

3.      Previous laboratory experience.

4.      Basic college courses in mathematics, statistics, research methods, or a related field.
