What is a manufacturing recruiter?

Manufacturing Recruiters are specialized human resources professionals who focus on finding, attracting, and hiring qualified candidates for roles within the manufacturing industry. They work closely with manufacturing companies to understand their staffing needs, job requirements, and desired skill sets. Their responsibilities often include sourcing candidates, screening resumes, conducting interviews, and coordinating the hiring process. Manufacturing Recruiters help ensure that factories and production facilities have the skilled workforce needed to operate efficiently and meet production goals.

What does a manufacturing recruiter do?

As a manufacturing recruiter, your job is to source candidates for employment at manufacturing companies. This usually means you screen out candidates who aren't suitable for a position, conduct an interview, and provide help with on-boarding employees. Each manufacturer has specific needs in employees, and manufacturing recruiters are expected to find the best possible matches. May work independently from the company, so you earn a commission or finder’s fee instead of a paycheck. You may need to work flexible hours to find the best candidates, especially if you're trying to hire them away from a different job.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a manufacturing recruiter?

To thrive as a Manufacturing Recruiter, you need a strong understanding of manufacturing industry roles, talent acquisition strategies, and experience in screening and interviewing candidates, usually supported by a bachelor’s degree in human resources or a related field. Familiarity with applicant tracking systems (ATS), HRIS platforms, and sourcing tools like LinkedIn Recruiter is important. Exceptional communication, relationship-building, and negotiation skills help you connect with both hiring managers and candidates. These skills ensure efficient placement of qualified talent, support organizational growth, and address the unique staffing needs of manufacturing environments.

How does a manufacturing recruiter typically collaborate with hiring managers and production supervisors during the recruitment process?

A Manufacturing Recruiter works closely with hiring managers and production supervisors to understand the specific skills, experience, and certifications needed for various manufacturing roles. They regularly communicate to clarify job requirements, discuss candidate progress, and fine-tune job descriptions based on team feedback. This collaboration ensures that candidates not only possess the necessary technical abilities but also fit into the company's work culture and meet production demands. Effective teamwork between recruiters and managers leads to more successful placements and a streamlined hiring process.

Job description

About 1X
We're building humanoid robots that work in home - doing the chores, handling the tasks, and giving people their time back. Simple, but it's not.
To do this right, we have to solve robotics, AI, manufacturing - at the same time, at scale, in a form factor that has to be safe enough to live with your family. If you're inspired by this, you'll thrive here. We've been at this since 2014 and we're at the point where the hard problems are behind us and the hard work is in front of us.
NEO is our flagship - a home robot designed to move, learn, and operate in the real world alongside real people. We're not demoing it - we're shipping it. We're excited to meet you, if this excites you.
If you've spent your career working on problems that matter and want to see them actually reach the world - this is that moment. We're scaling, we're hiring with intention, and we need people who want to build something that will genuinely change how humans spend their time - safely creating abundance for all.
About the Team
The Talent team is responsible for building the organization that will build the future of humanoid robotics. We partner closely with leaders across Engineering, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Operations, and Corporate functions to identify, attract, and hire exceptional talent capable of solving some of the world's most difficult technical and operational challenges.
Talent plays a critical role in 1X's ability to scale. Every hire shapes our culture, raises our technical bar, and accelerates our mission. The team operates with urgency, high standards, and deep partnership to ensure the right people are in the right roles at the right time.
Your Charter
The Talent team is responsible for ensuring 1X can attract, assess, and hire the people required to scale humanoid robotics from research and development through global production. As the company grows, Talent sits directly on the critical path by enabling organizational growth, strengthening hiring quality, and ensuring teams can scale without compromising performance or culture.
As a Staff Manufacturing Recruiter, you will serve as a senior talent partner responsible for helping scale the manufacturing organization that brings NEO from development into production. You will partner directly with executive leaders, own some of the company's most critical and complex hiring initiatives, and help shape talent strategy across manufacturing, automation, test, software, and hardware functions. Beyond individual hiring success, you will play a key role in raising recruiting standards, mentoring teammates, and helping build a world-class talent organization.
Key Outcomes
  • Deliver exceptional hiring outcomes across manufacturing engineering, automation, test, software, hardware, and production-related technical functions.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to executive leadership by shaping hiring strategies, talent priorities, and workforce planning decisions.
  • Build and maintain high-quality talent pipelines across critical manufacturing and technical disciplines that support rapid organizational scaling.
  • Improve recruiting effectiveness through process design, talent market intelligence, interview calibration, and hiring best practices.
  • Elevate overall Talent team capability through mentorship, coaching, and sharing of recruiting expertise across the organization.

Key Competencies
  • Elite full-cycle recruiter with demonstrated success hiring across multiple technical disciplines and organizational levels.
  • Strategic talent partner capable of influencing executive leaders and helping shape workforce planning decisions.
  • Strong systems thinker who can navigate ambiguity, identify hiring bottlenecks, and create scalable recruiting solutions.
  • Exceptional talent assessor with strong judgment across manufacturing, engineering, automation, and technical hiring profiles.
  • Natural mentor and team builder who helps raise standards and develops recruiting capability across the broader Talent team.

Minimum Requirements
  • 10+ years of experience leading full-cycle recruiting in highly technical, manufacturing, engineering, or complex operational environments.
  • Proven success hiring across multiple technical domains including manufacturing, automation, software, hardware, test, or related engineering functions.
  • Experience partnering directly with senior leaders, directors, and executives on hiring strategy and workforce planning.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate independently with high ownership, sound judgment, and strong execution.
  • Track record of mentoring, coaching, or influencing other recruiters and recruiting teams.

Preferred Skills
  • Experience supporting robotics, advanced manufacturing, aerospace, automotive, semiconductor, or other hardware-intensive industries.
  • Experience scaling organizations through periods of rapid growth and operational expansion.
  • Expertise recruiting manufacturing leadership, technical program management, automation, controls, test, and production engineering talent.
  • Experience designing recruiting processes, interview frameworks, organizational hiring plans, or talent programs.
  • Familiarity with workforce planning, organizational design, and long-term talent strategy initiatives.

What Does a Successful 1X Team Member Look Like?
Team members at 1X who thrive here are builders. They move fast, own their work completely, and treat time like it's the one thing you can't get back - because it is. They say what they mean, finish what they start, and hold themselves to a standard before anyone has to ask. We push each other to be better, and we do it with honesty and respect.
Compensation Range
$110,000 - $186,000 per year
Benefits
  • Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage
  • Generous paid time off, company holidays, and parental leave
  • 401(k) plan with company match (100% on the first 3% of contributions, 50% on the next 2%)
  • Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA) and Health Savings Accounts (HSA) options
  • Commuter benefits (transit and parking)
  • Short-term and long-term disability, and life insurance
  • Employee Assistance Program (EAP) for mental health, financial, and personal support
  • Onsite snacks and catered lunches
